this helmet has the same problem - it was listed on ebay as a game used wolverines in september of '06 and sold for over $1,500...

exactly - first the exterior of the gb yellow molded shell is painted "maize" yellow (or sunflower) and left to dry. then the famous michigan design is masked by hand with masking tape (as opposed to a stencil or template) and the shell is then painted michigan blue. and, finally, the masking tape is removed to expose the maize design. because of this process, no two michigan helmets are the same. russ hawkins, now in his '70s, is the man who paints these helmets - he's been doing it for about 40 years now. sadly, michigan will most likely switch to decals once mr. hawkins calls it quits.

and for those of you that don't know how this famous, unique design came to be, it's really pretty simple. during the leather helmet era, michigan painted the seams and front padding of the leather helmet yellow and the rest of the helmet blue. when michigan switched to the seamless plastic helmets, they just kept the design...

nope - the real problem with that helmet is that it is not painted entirely with gold paint, with "Irish" on the front
