Ken Griffey Jr. Louisville contract

I was wondering when Griffey signed a contract with Louisville Slugger. I have been offered a 1990 Griffey bat that is block letter Ken Griffey Jr. It has the usual criss cross handle tape, but I am just wondering if he ever ordered block letter C271's in 1990. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Be careful if it only has GRIFFEY in blocl letters, as opposed to KEN GRIFFEY JR. Both Craig Griffey and his dad, Ken Griffey had block letter bats with only the last name.
