Hey everyone

I was looking through an old thread and noticed an Alex Rodriguez game issued jersey sold by jfactory_sports (http://myworld.ebay.com/jfactory_sports/)http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gifto gingerine98

I noticed in the close up of the tagging there appear to be remnants of the Steiner hologram- as if it has been removed.

I wonder where it is now.

Don't know about the Steiner holograms, but many of the authentication stickers are designed by the manufacturer to be destroyed if removed. I once tested a PSA/DNA sticker on a LOA and the sticker was ruined when removed ... I had bought a group lot of autographs with one PSA LOA. After I had sold off the autographs individually, I was left with just the LOA and figured, what the heck, I would see what would happen if I removed the sticker.

To me, it looks like a "13" in faded black marker

You can picture the oval of the steiner sticker like this one

Steiner holograms fall off very easily. I have 2 pairs of Mets pants with Steiner holograms on them and both holograms have fallen off easily already and they don't break or anything like that. I just place them back on.

It doesn't make sense to sell correctly as "game issued" after you have already removed a Steiner holo which in my opinion would decrease the value.

The "fakers" remove the holo after they purchase as a "game issued" to call it a "game used" when they go to resell so I am confused by this one.

Unless this was a game issued blank, which now magically has lost the hologram but gained a #13 on the back.

You could sell it as Issued with a Steiner letter and sell something else (non-steiner) with a Steiner sticker and no letter.

The jersey is a 2006 per the Year tag and in 2006 they weren't issuing #'d holograms so it was just a standard Steiner Company hologram so I still contend that removing the hologram would decrease the overall value, but you bring up a good point that this could have been a blank that the #13 was added.

We need Rudy to check the stitching!

Good point by Eric and is a good alternate theory to what may have happened. Someone thought they could remove the Steiner hologram to place on another item and part of it flaked off. The old Steiner holo's never seemed to adhere well to fabrics.
