How long, in inches, should a Sandknit NBA jersey that is a size 46+2 inches, be? Top of neck to bottom of the jersey? I'll never buy another Bird jersey without knowing that measurement. Can somebody with that size of jersey please let me know. BTPH?? Thanks guys.

great question....do you think that the measurement might vary from a Medalist and a McGregor?

Maybe, but you think it would be "standard" wouldn't you? Anyway, someone with that size of jersey please let us know. Thanks,
Greg

ok. I think I got the answers for this. This if the info for sandknit NBA jerseys in the 1980s: Ball Park Heroes has an NBA jersey of the Sixers from the 86-87 season and it's a 46+3. Kim says it's 33 inches long and 23 inches across. So, a normal 46 sandknit jersey should be 30 inches long and 23 inches across. So for Bird jerseys, normally he wore a 46+2, they should be 32 inches long and 23 inches across. Does this sound right for Sandknit jerseys, guys? LMK if you have any more info. Thanks.

Greg...mine is 42 inches from the middle of the back side of the neck to the bottom...it is also 21 1/2 inches wide in the middle....it is from 1989

I also would think that there would be a bit of shrinkage on the dureen jerseys from pre 87

Kim Stigall emailed me back and he measures his from the back of the jersey, not the front. Top of the back of the neck to the bottom of the jersey. Yea, I think the knits could have a little shrinkage too. Anymore info let us know. Thanks,
Greg

My 46s measures 30 and a half inches from top to bottom, down back. With 2 inches extra length, that would be 32 and a half inches. Also, 22 and a half inches (unstretched) from armpit to armpit.

I also would think that there would be a bit of shrinkage on the dureen jerseys from pre 87

The last NBA team to wear mercerized durene cotton was the late 70s Washington Bullets. The Celtics knits of the 80s is not Durene, but 100% nylon.

I have also used the term "cheese cloth" as well for the pre-88 celtics shirts and lakers shirts from the 70's...call the Tiernan jerseys a "pinnaple stitch"...where I heard these I can't recall, but the terms have stuck with me through the years

Good stuff to know if you're buying Celtics or other NBA sandknit jerseys from the 1980's. Thanks guys.

Question then-I know of a Larry Bird gamer 1986-87 size 46 (no +2). I had them measure it and it's 29.5 inches long and 20.5 inches across. Which is a little short on each measurement-BUT-it's a cheesecloth jersey. Would that account for the 1/2 inch (long) and 2 inch (across) differences compared to other jerseys that are size 46? Let me know what you guys think. THanks,
Greg
