Michel Goulet Jersey on Ebay

Question for you guys. There is a Michel Goulet Nordiques game used jersey on ebay right now but there is not an NHL shield on the bottom at the back next to the CCM logo. The jersey is supposedly from 86/87 or 87/88. Didn't all gamers have the NHL sheild on them at this time? Is this jersey legitimate? Any help would be great. Thanks!

I believe the NHL shield first came into use during the 1989-90 season. Most of the set 1 jerseys from that year are sans shield, and most from the second half have it. All teams had it in 1990-91.

Nathan is correct.

As you might know, MeiGray directed the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Program from 2002-07, and now directs the MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program for 14 of the 30 NHL teams.

According to a CCM Vice President who I contacted on this subject approximately two years ago, the NHL and CCM agreed to add the NHL shields to the backs of the jerseys during the 1989-90 NHL season.

The machine designed to embroider the shield onto the jersey did not reach the Quebec factory until sometime during the winter of 1989-90. Most NHL teams had CCM jerseys with no shields through the first half of the season, a few added the NHL shields late in the 1989-90 regular season, a few added the NHL shields to their 1989-90 playoff jerseys, and all teams had the NHL shields on their jerseys for the start of the 1990-91 NHL season.
