View Full Version : What's that one piece you'll never get rid of?

We all have it......it's that one piece in our collection that we'll never get rid of, no matter how broke we are or how badly we need to sell it. What's yours?

Mine is my first game worn jersey; a Juan Encarnacion game worn July 22,2002 TBTC Marlins jersey; MLB authenticated & unwashed with dirt stains everywhere. I got for a great steal at $130 a little more than a year ago on eBay

What I've learned is never say never. Give me a year or so and I'm ready to upgrade or change my game plan-and I end up selling a piece I always said I'd never get rid of.

I hear that. But the one piece I will probably never part with is my 2007 Game Used Adrian Cardenas uncracked LVS M9. Not only is it an uncracked gamer of my favorite player, but it is autographed and absolutely hammered with use. Come to find that this bat is one of the bats from his first personalized order with LVS! I doubt he has anymore of these around.

Man...tough question! I`ll have to say a 1998 Tony Gwynn game issued, signed LVS Bat. It has all the knob & barrel specs written on it, taped handle, & a hand painted gold colored stripe under the label. It`s that "fat grain" too, full PSA paperwork. I almost "re-sold" it but glad I didn`t. I asked Tony about the gold colored stripe, & he replied "I did that" He has been generous about his time & has looked at & signed several things for me. I posted pics somewhere, I don`t have them on this laptop.

The item I will never sell is my Brad Wilkerson 2005 game used bat. It is MLB hologramed as used on 4-4-05, the Nationals inagural game. I have video matched it as being broken in his 2nd at bat of the game...more than likely (I hope) the same bat used in his first at bat, the very first in Nationals history. This is my first Nationals bat, and a birthday present from my dad.

My 1998 Kevin Greene Panther jersey is my most prized piece. I got it directly from Kevin, as a gift. He wore it most of the season, so it has great wear. It is far from the most valuable item that I own. For me its not about the money I have in something that makes me value one piece over another. If it got down to me having to sell this, the whole collection would go first.

Bo Jackson's game used (monster home run) bat from the 1989 All Star Game. It's my prized possession, and someday someone will pry it from my cold dead hands, or that of my children's children! From the biggest single defining moment in the career of the greatest athlete in all of sports history.

I can't think of anything else I'd rather have from his career (except of course his Heisman Trophy which is probably worth a cool million!).

It would have to be my 1995 Dan Wilson game bat acquired after the White Sox game. For the last 12 years I have had autographs added by Mariners that support CF and the Kids Care program. 1995 was a magic year for the M's and the players are great people. About 12 sigs on it today. I have several pieces that I get personalized to make sure I don't sell them off...they go to the boys when I pass!

I have a game used Mickey Mantle bat from the 1953 season that I never plan on selling. He only ordered 6 bats of this model K55, it's 35 inch and 33 oz. I also have a game used bat of Lloyd Waner from the time period of 1921-1931, that I plan on keeping for a long time. There are only a couple of these bats around.

I have to say that I will more than likely will never get rid of this Jon Lester game worn jersey. He wore it this year while rehabbing and before going up he personalized it and gave it to me. Means a lot because he is a great guy!

This is especially tough for me because I collect stuff from three sports. Of my baseball jerseys, I'd probably say my 2003 Roger Clemens road jersey, which was purchased from Steiner. For football, I'd probably hold onto my 2006 Lance Briggs jersey. But overall, I'd have to say my 1993-94 Whalers Chris Pronger rookie jersey. I attended almost all the Whalers home games that season and watched Pronger play in this exact jersey. I have a DVD of him wearing the jersey against the Penguins, which makes it all the more special to me, as I was at the game.

You have some awesome stuff Jon. Remember me when you go to sell that Thome jersey, your pal Bob...

I have been thinking about how to reply to this thread for a day or so. I am not sure how to pinpoint just one thing. I could say of my 20+ Kingman bats the J93, as it is an extremely huge bat and very rare, I think moreso than the bicentennials I own. I could say one of the 7 Kong jerseys which I am finding out recently how tuff they are. My McGwire WS bats... But, probably the toughest thing to replace would be my Huntsville Stars McGwire home heavily used jersey, auto'd in the collar and front in blue sharpie. I have owned the item since the early to mid 90's. I am told that after the 98 campaign I could have had $15-20,000 for it which I now whould take in a heartbeat. I am also told today with the auto's and right person it could see $4000. Money is not everything, I am a collector. If I had equal value in Mac collectibles I would move it now, but otherwise it is a keeper.

Just my 2 cents. RK:eek:

While some of the newer guys in the hobby might be surprised to see an actual locker nameplate void of vibrant colors and multiple holograms, the most sentimental piece I own is Cal's locker nameplate that he personally handed to me after the last (home) game of the 1988 season (I was fortunate to get clubhouse access from a friend who worked for an area radio station). The thing I remember is that even though it's only laminated cardboard, after I asked Cal for it, he actually left to ask someone if it was OK to give it to me...

WOW thats a hard one I have so many peices that I like a lot. I would have to say it would be between 3.

1998 Game Used World Series Yankees Jorge Posada Jersey - Yankees best season in their history

1. it's one of my favorites
2. when I bought it, it was under the understanding that I was keeping the jersey for myself and not to auction or for resale, so it isn't going anywhere

a close second would be my Julius Jones gamer

great thread - interesting to see all the items that some cherish so dearly - just goes to show all the different interests out there

Actually I apologize I do have one other piece which I forgot to mention but its not Game Used but I value dearly.

I have a bat autographed by over 80 Yankees with 60 inscriptions from players dating back from 1948 till now and I am still adding to it.
6 of the autographs are from players that are deceased.

For me it is my Mark Brunell game worn jersey from the Jags first ever Monday night game 9/22/97. That was also his first game back from the pre-season knee injury that everybody said would take 8 weeks to heal. He had a great game, the Jags beat the Steelers, and that jersey is a big part of Jaguars history. When Mark left Jacksonville, he listed that game as one of his top five memories as a Jag.

I have been a Red Sox fan since 1967, and have lived through the several world series that they lost in 7 games: 1967, 1975, and 1986. I have a game used 2004 David Ortiz regular-season bat from the year of their first series win since 1918 (the year my father was born and he has seen both the 2004 and the 2007 wins). This bat is not nearly as good as Oil Can Dan's Ortiz 2004 world series bat, but it is my favorite bat.

I don't know about "NEVER" but, these items would be hard to sell and are about as close to "NEVER" more than any other items in my collection.

-The first item is a Mike Jarmoluk Eagles Alumni ring. It was Mike's personal ring that was awarded to him by the Eagles. 10K gold with a real diamond. The eagle is 14K. Mike was a member of the Eagles 1949 Championship team.

-The 2nd item is a Duke football that came from the Eagles ticket office on Market Street back around 1964. There was a plaque beneath the football that said, "Gameball - 1960 Championship Game". I got the football in 1964 and have had it all these years. On the day I got the football, I can still remember walking over the Franklin Field and throwing it around with my brother.

Probably this for right now, I am a big "Nellie" fan, I would say I'd move it if I found a player I liked even more. That season was a magical one here in Seattle, setting an AL record for wins, the All-Star game being played here which I was at and it also has the 9/11 Memorial flag patch on the back. This one looks like it was used most (if not all) of the season. I know the complete history of hands it's passed through, I'm the 3rd owner. Jeff has seen it and confirmed it was his and he wore it that year.
