Not sure about it...it is being offered as Non-Game Worn, however I don't recall Mayberry with the Dodgers in 1987. Per Baseball Almanac #54 was worn by Ron Davis....

Any thoughts on it?

It sure is getting some bids....

I'm a bit amazed that nobody has an answer to the riddle...I hope the winning bidder does. Jim

Jim,

Here's a shot in the dark. John Mayberry had been retired for five years by the time 1987 rolled around, so perhaps he was a special instructor of some sort for the Dodgers that spring (which is why he doesn't show up on the roster). As for Ron Davis, he didn't even join the Dodgers until August of '87, so it's possible that in the Spring of '87 someone else might have been issued that number.

The Dodgers had a pitcher named Greg Mayberry who did see spring training action in 1987. I would guess this jersey was issued to him.

That would also explain why his number isn't showing up in my reference materials! If he was a non-roster or minor leaguer, it wouldn't have....

Many thanks,

Jim
