yoseff777 - there's also a great circa 1974 getty image that shows the inside of bradshaw's hnd9 with the evenly spaced crown pad attachments which accounts for the aligned screws! as far as campbell is concerned, i took another look and he defintey did wear an rts for one year, the last year he wore a rawlings - he wore it with a red dw-nopo. as far as i can tell that's the only year he wore it and as such never wore it with a gray nopo. here's what i found:

1978 - riddell - gray nopo
1979 - rawlings hnd9 - gray nopo
1980 - rawlings hnd9 - gray nopo dw
1981 - rawlings hnd9 - red nopo
1982 - rawlings rts - red nopo dw
1983 - riddell - red usfl
1984 - riddell - red usfl

Both of my WD 1's have the blue inner shell. Blades was recertified 1991 and Crocket 1990. Both look like gamers, especially the Crockett. Blades has the flag worn by Lions in '90. I'd say these 2 helmets prove the point the helmets had blue interior shells. Bought off ebay if my memory's right...

although you have two lions helmets with blue shells, unfortunately it doesn't settle the matter imo. as most football helmet collectors know, anything is possible of course - however i'm not aware of any collector that has obtained an authentic lions helmet from a solid source that consisted of a blue shell painted silver. add to this the dozens and dozens of closeup game photos available that do not show a) a blue shell exposed by hit marks, scrapes and/or paint chipping b) a blue shell exposed by inconsistent spraying around the helmet's edges c) a blue shell visible in shots of the helmet's interior. i can't help but wonder if these blue shell helmets aren't part of the old proline models...

as far as the gary danielson helmet is concerned, imo there's little doubt that it's a reproduction. danielson stopped wearing a suspension helmet (and i don't think he ever wore a gladiator suspension helmet) long before the lions switched to blue facemasks, and he never wore a blue dungard if i remember correctly (although he did wear that style in gray). further, it's another dark colored helmet painted silver - i believe it was originally navy or black... and of course the oversized decal is a big problem.

the blades helmet strikes me as problematic as well. the paint job appears suspect and the lions decal, with the exaggerated (extra wide) transparent border, was only used in 1986 as far as i can tell (but your decal even varies from those odd, short-lived 1986 decals) and therefore doesn't really jive with the 1990 memorial flag.

your vintage lions helmet sold at auction as a circa 1953-1954 game used lions helmet (attributed to earl girard). it appears to be an early macgregor - however there were other macgregor models (and wilson and rawlings models) out at the time which provided better padding and/or sturdier suspension units. in short, i'm not sure this particular model was used at the pro level - at least i'm not as certain as i am about the other models. also i have never seen a vintage photo of a lions player sporting that type of facemask - here are some vintage photos of that era showing the style the lions wore which is similar to your helmet - but not the same...

As usual, you are correct on the Campbell grey double wire. It was on HND 9 and the red double wire was on the RTS.

If you don't mind, how did you go about striping the paint without clouding the clear plastic, or did you? I worked up a Seahawks clear shell Kelley helmet (http://www.greenglare.com/images/kcs1.jpg), yet, when I got the shell it was very cloudy from the striping that someone else did. Thus, had to get very fine grit sandpaper and.................well, it was tedious.

As anyone can probably tell by my username and e-mail address: Richard Todd will always be my fav Jets player and sports idol. Anytime I can find a Todd piece of memorabilia it is an exciting day. Once again, thanks Robert. Looks like all of these helmets might be suspect. I am definately not a helmet expert and havent studied them that much. I did look at 100's of Lion photos I personally took 1991-1993 but those showing insides of helmets are inconclusive. I may try to blow a few up but they are 35 mm and I dont have a scanner. I must say if the Crockett is fake someone went to great lengths.
My major effort has been in ID'ing Lions jersies. More my area of expertise.

Greg Spires Buccaneers 2005-2006 seasons gamer.
Lots of use on this one....I counted 13 team repairs. You can see the outline from the stitching of the "30th Season" patch they wore in '05 just to the right of the team logo on the chest. Looks like it was removed so the jersey could be worn again in '06 which is where several photo-matches originated, particularly the pics with the black mark under the #4 on the left shoulder.

Some old school Saints pickups. In this order, 1994 throwback with tackle twill, style used only once in 94 against the 49ers (Smeenge), also 94, screened numbers recycled from 1993 (Byrd), and a 1998 briefly used design with gold numbers on white (Dombrowski).

that was a heck of a helmet you stripped down - but then again you did one heck of a job restoring it, that thing is a beauty! someday you will have to tell me how the interior rivets look on your restoration clearshells, if they look like the original factory installed rivets....

Great photos of the Lions/Rawlings helmets! Is the photo of player # 28 a clear shell ?
In regards to the rivets on the clear shells the Rawlings CSH had no rivets (only screws) so it was perfect for restoration while the Macs and Kelleys have not been re-riveted.
In the Macs/Kelleys the suspension part is held in place by the front and rear pads and the rivets are glued to the helmet's outside shell. I am still debating having them done but as you probably know the Mac/Kelley rivets are about a 1/16 larger in diameter than the Riddell rivets.
That is not the green ridge I was going to use but that looks great, is it from ebay? I was watching the 49ers Ridge on ebay as well : )
Finally, here is a photo of the Bears / Wilson F2000 clear shell I restored.

i was wondering how you did that... even though not riveted, it still displays perfectly! and what a great job on that bears helmet! i think any vintage helmet collector has a soft spot for clearshells - they are just so unique. i also really like clearshells that aren't the usual suspects (mac, maxpro & kelley) - it seems like just about every helmet manufacturer had their own version back in the day (rawlings, wilson, nokona, etc.).

here are some interesting ones - i especially like the wilson f2002 (with the cards decal) and the rawlings hbzc-1 (red one with yellow "m", exact same leather padding and configuration as an hnd)....

Wow those are some great clear shells. Does the Cards/Wilson helmet have the decal under the shell (looks like it is on top of a rivet)?
Never seen that Rawlings clear shell model (the red/maroon one) before although I recognize the Patriots CHS model and the Nokona from ebay.
I included a photo of a Cards later model MaxPro called the 'SuperPro'. I think it is actually a Kelley MH 100 (Mac MH100) shell mold that they used for the SuperPro model. It is definitely a different shape from the 'Kineomatic 21' model. (The Kineomatic 21 shell is rounder or more bulbous than the teardrop or sloping shaped SuperPro. Also the SuperPro had Riddell like 'wildcat' nose bumpers and vinyl padding almost identical to the leather padding of the Kineomatic 21's ). Anybody have any info you know about the SuperPro?

There was a Denver Broncos Maxpro Kineomatic 21 that just sold on ebay for around a grand. Anyone here know the story on it? Was it the real deal, or, someone's project? The interesting thing is you weren't able to view the auction just a short time later after the auction ended. So, maybe someone clued in to the fact that it wasn't legit? Just a very nice fake?

Definitely used in the '07 game against Detroit and most likely also used in the '06 game versus the Niners since all the alternates appear to have been made prior to the '05 game against the Niners and used once a year thereafter until JO Sports got 'em. Berrian didn't play in the '05 game so it's almost a certainty this one was only used twice.

This is my 1992 game worn Barry Sanders home. I bought this in the summer of 1993 from a Detroit Lions/Oakland co. special olympics auction at Northville, MI. Upon taking it home, and knowing nothing of proving authenticity, I went down town and bought a couple Pro Football Mags that had Barry pics that looked suspiciously like my jersey. To my shock, I was able to make a 100% photo match which is demonstrated here. The pic was Barry on the Road vs TB 1992. I then compared it with 20 pics I took vs Minn '92 and it matched them also. The jersey has a strange corkscrewed "20" on the reverse which I will not photograph. (I'll keep an ace in the whole). It shows up game after game on DVD.
After owning or purchasing every DVD of Lions wearing blue jerseys, 1992, it became obvious that Barry Sanders DID NOT CHANGE HIS JERSEY that year. I simply cannot find any image that does not match the holes and rips in my jersey, several of which occured in the 1st home game of the year vs Minn(which I attended with over 20 of my own personal photos of Barry.) Equip managers later told me a max 2 jerseys were prepared for him that year. I'm positive he only wore one.
This jersey is a 1992 Wilson. It has no patch. 1992 was the only year between 1991 and 1994(the Wilson years) the Lions wore no patch of any kinds. 1991 had the JRT patch. 1993 had the 60 year patch. 1994 the 75 year patch. In the middle of 1994 the Lions switched to Apex.
Yet I have seen my very unique jersey sold at auction in excess of 20 times. Sometimes the same one rerouted. I have seen these appear in most major venues authenticated by many of the major authenticators. Its disgusting. The fakes aren't even close in most cases. Easy to spot if you know what you are looking for. One honest member in here had one recently posted on ebay with multiple letters of authenticity from several of the big names and auction houses. Its heart breaking. More pics later but I also own Barry's only game worn 1991 home and that one has been sold multiple times also. I challenge any of these sellers/authenticators to show me the evidence of exactly which game their jersey was worn in. They can't. The real 1994 Barry road I recently sold to RGibson is one of only 3 real Barry's I have ever seen in any public auction. More later.
To match jersey with pic simply notice configuration of meshholes inside and around the "20".

Great jersey 34. Love the Bears orange alternates. Sweet matches. I don't think that one was used in the 2006 vs 49ers. Game Exclusives had that one it's site when it was around. I had it photomatched to that game with marks on the #'s. It's out there somewhere.

Thanks for the info, indy! I'd gotten the '06 alt game on DVD but hadn't gotten around to watching it yet. I was able to match the jersey to the '07 game fairly easily but not because there were decent views of the big grass stain on the back, because there weren't. It was the spots on the front that were shown several times during the 4th quarter that proved to be the match.

I'll post the pictures of the jersey later tonight, but here is the photo I used to photo match a Jim Turner jersey I just picked up from Mr. Broncos [Pat Scoggin]. Thanks again Pat!

The match comes from the J on the namepate. This photo is from 1977, however the jersey was originally issued to Jim in 1972 and at that time, there was another Turner on the roster so they had to add the 'J' to the already recycled durene nameplate from the 1971 season....typical kicker treatment, has to wear the same jersey for 6 years with a nameplate that is pieced together..ha!

1996 John Randle that I "STOLE" off of Ebay for less than a pair of tennis shoes. Shows tons of wear with 4 repairs and has blood stains on the back numbers and is autographed. No other defensive tackle in the history of modern football has more sacks than Randle(136.5).

I saw the AMI Raiders Alzado and I saw the AMI Browns Alzado, which led me to believe this was an early Raiders Alzado since the Browns was a 48 and this one is a 48. This variety of the crown logo MacGregor Sand-Knit tagging first began appearing in 1987. This tagging (along with the "exclusive" tagging) was also available on retail jerseys of the era.

It looks like there's a MacGregor "M" tag on one sleeve, correct? You see that on jerseys manufactured around 1990-1991, not the '80s.

There is a little more to the Urlacher story, so I will share it with you.

Of course I got the jersey & pants from JO, but they were unable to get the cleats & gloves. Funny thing is the cleats and gloves actually found me.

I was contacted shortly after I posted the mock LOA thread for the uniform and was handed a lead as to where to get them. Not only did I get the cleats and gloves, but I found a little slice of Bears heaven. Stuff that you just dream of having as a collector. The walls are BURSTING with Game Used Gear!

This was just an awsome find for me. Not only was I able to get the cleats & gloves to help complete the uniform, but I was able to have Brian personally sign the LOA's, and find most of the items on my wishlist.

With my newly found "treasure chest" of Bears gear, I will end up broke & in the dog house with my wife. But I think you once said - the dog house isn't all that bad when you have a sweet ass collection to have in there with you.

I will be sure to stay updated on my pick-ups.

Eddie is a friend of mine and I owe Joric a huge thank you for allowing this jersey out of your collection and into mine. Big thanks to Matthew at TriplexXxSports for walking me through the UV light process and for the incredible photo montage.
This jersey has been laundered so the UV process was a necessity in order to help identify it.
The numbers look white to the naked eye but when you hit them with the UV light the hidden remnants of laundered
4-year old stains are revealed.
The UV light also amplifies the appearance of the dings in the mesh body.
Also note the differing distances from the seam on each shoulder that the
Reebok logo was sewn and the way that they match this jersey.

The jersey is tagged "05-44" but how do I know it wasn't used in the '05 alternate jersey game? Because he set a record by returning a missed field goal 108 yards for a touchdown in that game and the jersey he was wearing was immediately sent to the Hall of Fame. The record didn't last long, though. Hester tied it the same season and it's been broken since.

Thanks a lot guys! I actually once owned a perfect Payton (circa 1977) that had tons of repairs and was almost as well worn as my Anderson. Selling that was my biggest regret...

34swtns- My Briggs stinks too. In fact, I considered washing it when I initially purchased it because the stench was so horrible. Fortunately, the jersey case that encases it keeps the stench inside and washing (or treating it with Febreeze) wasn't neccesary. I also have unwashed jerseys of Benson, Harris and Muhammad, but none of those smell half as bad as the Briggs.

Looks like the real thing. Here's a screengrab from last year's Pittsburgh game that I enlarged. You can see the two "scratches" behind the star on the helmet, which seem to match up quite well with your helmet. The black vertical "smudge" probably happened during the last three games of the season.

Favorite jersey in my collection! Before making the regular season roster, Driver was issued #13 (not 80). After getting moved off of the practice squad, he was then issued #80. When I purchased this jersey, I knew the guy I was buying it from and I knew exactly when he purchased it from the Packers. However, the tags threw me off with the years not matching up. I contacted Red Batty (Packers Equip Mgr) and he said "it's the real deal." I doubt there are many jerseys like this one out there!

This is a complete Game Used uniform or former Wisconsin Badgers RB Brian Calhoun. These were Throwbacks to celebrate the remodeling of Camp Randall stadium. Jersey shows Great use with a nice size hole on the shoulder. Helmet shows tons of use also. Cleats still have the black tap on them and tons of rubber stuck to it from the field. Complete with Jersey, Helmet, Pants, cleats and socks. Brian also added his game stats to the helmet.

But that is the 'challenge', that is the 'fun' in collecting. Collecting gear from teams/players that are tight-knit on giving stuff out for the market is expensive, and very time consuming, but it makes that piece all the more sweeter!

I did not purchase this as the intent of it being a gamer but it is better than the retail versions (just sent one back due to the incorrect color of the jersey) and as close to the true gamer style that I can afford. Would love to be able to add the gamer JO has for sale now but just not a realistic financial purchase for me....

The only NFL items in my collection are from the Steelers. I have a pair of game used pants that were worn by Gabe Rivera before his career ending car accident. I also have his team issued and well used garment bag with the Steelers logo and his initials on it. I wish I had a jersey to go with them, so if anyone has one, let me know!

The top of the nameplate and part of the bottom of the nameplate needs to be re-sewn, the sleeves horns are coming loose at the shoulders and the bottom was re-hemmed by the team. It is complete with Sand-knit and Fredericks tags. There is a front pouch sewn onto the front of the jersey.

The only detractor is, it looks like a hot iron fell on the front of the jersey damaging the #2. But its NOT too bad and it adds to the character of the jersey.

Unfortunately, Cullen died on October 16, 2009 of natural causes. Listed at 6 feet 1 and 234 pounds, Bryant was stronger than most tailbacks, and he was the biggest player of his era to regularly return punts and kickoffs - this jersey shows just how hard he played.

Anyone get a pink C patch gamer yet. Nfl.com auctions has been selling quite a few of them. Along with host of other stuff. Seems this year they have auctioned more gamers from a variety of teams than ever before. They have had some AFL patched throwbacks of Kansas City, San Diego, Houston Oilers, Jets Titans, Broncos ect. Even a couple Patriots gamers from London game.

That's very cool!!!! You're right, there aren't many kickers jerseys that show good use...unless you pick up a Jay Feeler gamer? He loves getting knocked around a bit on kickoffs. I agree with you on the NFL Auction pics, it's a crapshoot sometimes. You can get a jersey with one games worth of use, or a jersey that's hammered, but their pics on the site all look the same. Half of the time the jerseys aren't even in focus.

I have had this for a while now and am now just getting around to it. From my research it is a 1973 Tom Graham (Daniel Grahams Dad) Broncos Jersey. I say '73 because of the down slope in the 5's, which they only did for one year. It has 5-6 Repairs, 2 of which are under the NOB "Wallen" who I think was a preseason player who didn't make the roster. Since Graham left midway through '75. There was an obvious nameplate change. I plan on sending to Patrick at Endzone soon but would like to hear opinions on wheater to have the nameplate Restored? I hear Lon Lewis is the man to talk to. And if I should have it signed? Graham lives in my area. Your opinions are Greatly Apprieciated...Thanks

Based on the Sand Knit tagging, your Denver Broncos jersey was not made before 1972/73. Based on various Sand Knit jerseys I've seen or owned over the years, the jerseys can be roughly dated as follows based on the color of the medallion logo:

Late 1960s and perhaps up through 1970, the ball is black and the top part of the medallion is gold. See the first photo below for an example.

Circa 1970 and '71 (and perhaps as late as 1972), the colors reverse with the ball being in gold stitching and the top part of the medallion in black. See the second photo below for an example.

As early as 1972, the tag slightly changes with the washing instructions taking up 4 lines instead of 3. This was consistent for several years afterwards. See the last two photos below for an example of the wording change on both a durene and a mesh jersey.

Hope this information is helpful in dating your jersey. Patrick at Endzone Sports will be a huge help to you.

Worn by Simon Fletcher in 1989 AFC Championship season (a 12 sack season).
Hammered with wear and repairs.
Denver Broncos All-Time Sack Leader (97.5), Broncos Single-Season Sack Record (16 - likely to fall this year to Dumervil), Three-time SB participant, voted first team defense on all-Broncos 50th Anniversary team.
Photomatched so far to two late December games versus Raiders and Chargers. Need to check playoffs but I suspect a new jersey may have been issued for post season.

Just got this in the other day. A 2006 Akin Ayodele Cowboys jersey, to go along with my other. The Navy was worn 11/05/06 and the White was worn 11/12/06. This one has a ton of use but no close photos for a photomatch. Akin had one interception in the 11/12 game. Now if only the Dolphins weren't so stingy about selling their jerseys, I might be able to make my collection complete.

Speaking of "stinks", every single New York Titans (Jets) throwbacks that I purchased on NFL Auctions smell AWFUL. Worst body odor you can imagine. Is this from them all sitting in a wet, sweaty bin after the games? I tried putting fabric softener sheets in between them, but this isn't doing any good. Is there any way to get the stench out of these, without washing off the game use on the jersey? Unfortunately, I live in an apartment, and can't let them air out on a clothesline. Any suggestions other than keeping them in a huge ziplock bag??

The helmet is impregnated. I hate to publicly kiss ass but as usual, Robert was most helpful. When I initially saw the helmet, I remembered a thread that Robert wrote Months ago about the font style used on authentic Bengals helmet logos. The font style seemed to match up to what Robert had commented on so I emailed the seller with some questions. At the same time, I emailed Robert who was kind enough to get back to me - he told me about the model of helmet, how rare it was and some Bengals did use these helmets. So, when the seller got back to me, I was ready to buy it.

I just received this Brian Moorman from NFL Auctions...I have been very happy with the jerseys that I have been receiving from NFL Auctions...the use on this one is terrific. This is a pink patch captains jersey that was worn for one game but the use of this tells me it was probably used for all of last year...it also has the 08 tagging.

No repairs on this one, but you can tell that there is a lot of pilling in different sports plus the tag looks like it has been washed a buch of times. You can just tell when a jersey has been worn a bunch and when it has been worn once.
