Thanks Jim. You can really see the difference in sizes between those two suspension units. Where one diameter is quite small(Packers), the other is quite large. I'm assuming that 49er lid is a 7 1/2?

Manram, Yes I have been friends with him since his rookie year. I had asked him for a jersey this season and instead he gave me his helmet!! I'll take the upgrade!

I just picked up an Anthony Spencer throwback jersey used in 2 games in 09. He had 1 sack in the first game and 2 in the second. It doesn't show a lot of use but it does have a few marks and 2 team repairs.
I also just picked up a Miles Austin jersey used against the Eagles where he had a 49 yd TD grab. This one shows a good amount of use especially since it was just used for 1 game.
I've been able to photo match them both.
I'll post picks of the photo matches in the other thread.

Mail day today! :D 2002 Jay Fiedler Dolphins jersey. Has one nice repair on it. The rest of the jersey just shows use from wash. The jersey shows from 2001, but with the equipment shield its from 2002. You can see on the inside where the old NFL shield is still on it. Unable to photomatch anything it due to the washing.

Just picked up a early 1970's (perhaps 72/73) Oilers helmet. The helmet was made by Gladiator and shows very nice use. On the back of the helmet, there appears the outline of the #3. The Oiler logos appear to be a three (3) part design - the white outline for the base, then the red trim was applied and the design was finished off with the white oil rig design.

I got 2 new items in today. I sold 5 jerseys and a few other things, but ended up getting 2 new ones that I'm very excited about. The first one is a 2008 Patrick Cobbs used on 12-21-08, and I believe it was used before then too due to the amount of wash wear it has. Repairs and one hole easily photomatched. Also came with an LOA from the Dolphins. The second is a 1994 Bernie Parmalee used against the Chargers in the divisional round of the playoffs. Shows excellent use with the front easily photomatched also. I wanted an 08' and a 94' jersey in my collection and I got them both! :D

Wolfe is a 42, but if I am not mistaken, in his first couple seasons (and back in college) he was a 40.

That's just crazy that pro's wear this small of a size. Hell, I was in a 44 my senior year of High School....

I can't believe Olin Kreutz wears a 46! I'm a little thicker than he is and I struggle getting into a 50. This year I'm trying to rock a 2XL over pads playing semi-pro and I might end up passing out it's so tight. Crazy!

John Taylor SB practice shirt from the week before the 49ers-Chargers clash. Also a 1994 away throwback used against the Detroit Lions. Both with team letters. Both were signed by JT at Leftys over the weekend and when he signed them he stated that "yes these are his".

I owe a BIG thanks to KM of NJ for the 94 throwback. He got his price and i got my JT, which is now signed! I have had the practice shirt for over 15 years so it is finally autographed as well!!!

Always looking for quality 49ers shirts with top $$$$$$$ paid and will always consider a "finders fee" if you point me in the direction of a shirt that i end up buying.

Ahhh so that's what happened to the Ware lid. I talked to my rep about that when they first got it in but they weren't moving much on the price. When I heard about the offer thing going on here I went to the website and saw it was gone already. I was wondering who grabbed it. Nice pick up.

I just got my only game used jersey signed so I thought I would share. He looked at it for about 5 minutes and kept saying "this is it, this is it". I got it through NFL auctions so I knew it was legit but he verified that it was definitely his jersey from that game.

I had to go back 5 pages to dust this thread off...here's a few jerseys I have picked up recently...

The blue Jason Hanson jersey was most likely used for his 400th field goal and is a great jersey (acquired from Jo). The white Hanson contains the pink captains patch and is also very cool. This now makes the 6th pink captains patch kicker/punter jersey in my collection...there is still a Longwell and Vinatieri out there that I missed out on...people, it would look great in my collection if you are the owners :)

Also picked up this great Jim Breech Bengals jersey...can anyone help with the year?

Regarding your inquiry on when the Jim Breech jersey was worn, he played with the Bengals for 13 seasons from 1980 through 1992. He did not begin wearing #3 until 1985 as he originally wore #10. The NFL shield was added in 1991, so the jersey was not used during his last two seasons. This narrows the time frame to 1985 through 1990.

Note that the Russell tag seen on this jersey was first introduced during the 1983 season (gold-script Russell tag was also still being used in 1983), and generally speaking, the 100% nylon flag tag didn't appear until a year or two later.

To confuse matters in trying to date Bengals jerseys by manufacturer, Cincinnati also used Champion during the late-1980s. Look at photos from the 1989 Super Bowl and you will see that most of the Bengals were wearing Russell, but a few players can be seen wearing Champion. (The Champion jerseys are easy to spot because of the unique number font which is especially discernible on the numbers 2 and 7.)

Perhaps someone who collects Bengals jerseys can provide input on when the Koch tagging was used to better pinpoint the year.

I finally received my 2009 Nnmadi Asomugha jersey and it shows great wear. It was worn vs the Broncos on December 20th and was actually worn in a game that the Raider won which is an added bonus. You can see the loose threading in the pic of the 50th Anniversary patch in the pic of him tackling Brandon Marshall.

I'd like to thank Jarrod and the guys at JO Sports for the jersey and the excellent customer service yet again!!

Picked up a Bryant Young rookie 1994 throwback with team letter, Gary Plummer 94 throwback with team letter, Steve Young 94 throwback with team letter, Roger Craig away 1990 shirt with multiple repairs, Jesse Sapolu 1994 throwback with team letter, Ricky Watters 1994 throwback with team letter.

Also won 4 shirts in the AMI recent auction-the Stubblefield 1997 gamer, the Todd Shell gamer, the Chuck Levy gamer and the Earl Cooper super bowl shirt. The Todd Shell was a bargani at 200$ as no one else bid!

Also picked up a Randy Cross late 80s gamer, Bart Oates 95 shirt with team letter and a Tim Harris 1992 shirt with team letter-thanks to KF for those 3 gems!

Discussion pertaining to that particular Sand-Knit tagging has come up before. Take a look at this thread for example:

On that thread a few other members indicate such tagging would be found no earlier than '87. This is also consistent with my experience with photo-matched examples.

It wouldn't be all that unusual to find an exception to the "rule". Of course it would really help if the piece in question was able to be definitively matched to at least one '86 game.

In the end, it would be most helpful to verify if this was indeed from '86. Then a number of us could reconsider our Sand-Knit tagging paradigms.

Orange Michael Brooks Denver Broncos jersey worn in Super Bowl. A mostly mesh jersey with Wilson tagging with a coded manufacture date of 1989. The wear is light but it has a torn neck and few other small dings. I've been able to match this jersey to the dvd of the 1990 Super Bowl, SB XXIV, a rout by Montana and Niners in full prime.

I purchased the Rob Bironas jersey last year and waited almost a year later and purchased the pants. The pants are cool and have a ton of alterations. Instead of using a belt, the pants are modified at the waist to have elastic and a drawstring. There has to be at least a couple inches removed from the waistband also. Just thought I'd post this because I haven't seen any matching jerseys and pants from this throwback uniform yet.

Just picked up a St. Louis Cardinals TK2 suspension helmet dated Jan 1969. The helmet logos are interesting because they are actually a 2-piece design - the face and/or beak (black section) is one part and the red section is the other part. It's pretty cool.

IVO610-Any 49ers that you could share with us? Here are a couple of my new additions...

Tim Harris 1992 full season gamer with team letter. Shirt has at least 20 repairs and was worn entire season.

1997 Chuck Levy gamer with custom neck, a few repairs and hits plus has tons of "stickem" remaining on the inside of the shirt to help keep it close to his pads/body

1994 Klaus Wilmsmeyer throwback gamer

Lastly sometimes taking photos of jerseys can be tough when you have a 2 year old!!!!!

Randy Cross 1987 away gamer with at least 15 repairs and Dick Dobbins letter. A great shirt overall.

Todd Shell mid 80s home gamer autographed and with tons of use. Custom neck which Ken Norton also wore 10 years later. This shirt, although sold by AMI twice, once was part of the best 49ers collection in existence. I am proud to own such a great shirt. 49er collectors out there should recognize where the shirt is signed and then realize what collection it once was part of. The original owner is a good friend and great guy.

Ken Norton Jr. 1994 Non-throwback worn against the Raiders with team letter. Shirt has at least 10 repairs and was also worn in preseason. Shirt also has the custom neck seen in the Todd Shell shirt worn in the mid 1980s!

Brent Jones 1994 Throwback playoff shirt worn in the demolition of the Bears with team letter. Terrible weather in SF that day but the game made that all irrelevant as the 49ers rolled thru the Bears en route to their last SB win.

Steve Young 1998 Pro Bowl gamer given by Young to Herman Moore. The shirt came with a notarized LOA signed by Moore and shows light use as expected.

Doesnt anyone else have any 49ers shirts to show off? Come on already-lets see em!

I've handled it very carefully...and now it's back in the bag. I think it's different, that's the only reason I posted pics. It's a photomatchers dream. Not unlike any NHL jersey that has blood on it...you just don't see many NFL jerseys like this.

Huge hail of 49ers during my NY to SF and back to Hawaii vacation. Have only taken photos of two shirts but will post all the rest over the next 2 days.

Joe Montana 1989 home Russell with team letter worn in American Bowl in Tokyo.

Steve Young 1987 home shirt worn in win against the Saints. This shirt i won in the recent Heritage auction. It originally had a letter from the Saints equipment manager which had been lost. i photo-matched it to the game using Getty in 10 minutes, matching up the mesh in the front 8 as well as the paint pattern on the upturned sleeves.

Justed picked up a nice early 1970's Bengals jersey of Bob Johnson. The jersey is made out of durene material with sewn on numbers and letters. The sleeve stripes are woven directly into the jersey. Its a very rare cold-weather jersey that was made by Sand-Knit.

Bob was the Bengals first ever college draft pick, a All-Pro player and the #54 is the only number that has been officially retired by the Bengals.

dave good pick up as it should be 1997. this site needs an edit feature bad! i wish i had a late 80s Young Russell gamer! those are RARE and the only i know of is in Lou Lampson's collection. He got it from by good buddy in SF. About to post quite a few more images of my recent pickups, although it seems as if no one really comments or cares about the 49ers shirts i post. i wonder if it is even worth it. i appreciate your comment though.

Here are a few additions to the collection from NY to SF where i met 2 great fans of game used gear. In NY my friend is really a BB collector but had a # of 49ers for sale that had been in his collection for 16 years. This was the first time that they had been out of storage since.

In SF my good buddy has been a 49ers fan for his entire life, has been to all 5 super bowls and knew both Chico Norton and Bronco well. He had the largest collection of 49ers gamers in the world. It spans 1946 to 1993. It was a real treat to see all the 50s shirts including the original shirts that the 1994 throwbacks were based on.

Ebay has also been somewhat kind to me in that i was able to win a Tim Mckyer 80s Russell, a 1994 TB Brent Jones shirt with team letter and a Cedrick Wilson 2002 MNF TB with team letter.

All mid to late 1980s Russell gamers with a generic 49ers team letter. All have repairs and show good game use. I know of no other 49ers collection that has the entire backfield for the dynasty teams of the 80s.

1994 was my favorite 49er team. I lived in SF for many years through the thrill of the 1988-1989 SB wins but also thru the devastating 1990 loss in the NFC championship game. 1994 was my redemption. I am trying to complete the roster which is obviously a tough task with the common players being hard to find. Plus those shirts are quite popular so many collectors are not willing to part with them. Here are a few nice ones. Most show great use with multiple repairs except that the stars like Rice, Young and Deion all wore a new shirt each game. The entire team wore new shirts for each playoff game so those shirts show minor one game use.

Always buying ANY 49er shirt with team letter!

A few others including a Mike Walter who was a beast of a linebacker in his day. What is interesting about this shirt is that it is the ONLY 49ers Russell that i have found that does NOT have the "100% NYLON" flag tag. My fellow collector and me looked thru literally a hundred shirts and this was the only one without the tag. Auction houses always have big name players (i.e. Montana, Rice, Young) Russell shirts without the flag tag. I dont know what to make of it but for a big name /money purchase like Montana i would think that any Russell shirt of his should have the flag tag.

The Walter shirt is destroyed with many repairs, hits etc and the Mckyer has custom sleeves. Last is a Jeff Stover with tons of use/repairs etc.

If I recall correctly (and maybe Mark Hayne or another football specialist can confirm or deny my recollections), the style of Russell tag that the Walter has sans fabric content tag indicates 1983-85 or so manufacture. The tag design was introduced in 1983, and previous Russell tag styles did not come with a nylon/polyester tag, making the above make at least chronological sense. If that's accurate, that would make this a 1984-85 gamer. I'm open to any additional comments, as I'm sure solar is.

Dave i do recollect that Mark or another expert has gone over this in another thread a few years ago. My point is that in many past auctions there are some high end gamers especially Montana, Rice or Young that dont have the flag tag. For Montana the shirt would have to be from 1984 as they wore Wilson till 1983 and Russell until 1989. I think that all the Russell gamers from 1985 and thereafter had the tag. So any Rice or Young without the tag would be suspect. Obviously teams re-use shirts over the years but after looking over two huge collections of 49ers Russell gamers and this being the ONLY one without the tag it would be a very rare shirt indeed for either a Rice or Young to be a Russell gamer without the flag tag. Montana maybe another story as they could have used a 1984 shirt over and over. With any football jersey though there are ALWAYS crazy variations as we have seen many times on GUU. I think it is just another example of needing to do ones homework when buying ANY game used jersey. I bought this Mike Walter for this very reason. I like oddities and something like a missing tag or a tag variation is fascinating to me.

Another interesting shirt i just got was from Mark Hayne. It is a 1994 throwback home Marc Logan. It started as a 1994 home non throwback but the sleeve numbers were removed and the front and back numbers were also removed. The team then added the throwback numbers to the front and back. When you examine the shirt the outline of the sleeve numbers is plainly visible as are parts of the old non throwback numbers on the shirt itself. Very cool as basically the 49ers used their non throwbacks to make the throwback shirts for some players. Shirts like that i find fascinating and are a great addition to my collection. I also have a Steve Young where the 1996 50th year patch outline is plainly visible but the shirt was used in the 1st game of 1997. Strange that the starting QB would be wearing a 1996 shirt with patch removed for the start of the next season. Again another example of what makes this hobby interesting and keeps good collectors on their toes. Both of the above shirts could have been written off as fakes but with a little research and photomatching they are authentic and, to me, more special.

Very good points on virtually all fronts. The 1994 situation would make sense, as I think the Niners, at one point during the season, pretty much shelved their standard home and road styles and wore the Throwback designs as their regular styles. For a non-star to have his jersey altered thusly by the team would be well within reason.

In response to the exchange between Dave Miedema and Paul (Solarlottry) regarding the 100% nylon flag tag on Russell jerseys (posts 952 and 953), I agree with their assessments. Based on research I have performed on this subject over the years, the tag design being discussed was first introduced in 1983 (although the previous style was also still in use in 1983), and the 100% nylon flag tag first appeared on that tag design circa 1985.

Here are a few more nice pickups!

Marc Logan 94 throwback which was first a non TB which had its original sleeve and front/rear #s removed and replaced by the throwback #s. This was fairly common with the 94 throwbacks as the team used many non-throwbacks to convert to throwbacks as they wore the throwbacks for every game after the Eagles loss.

Ricky Watters 94 home throwback worn in the NFC Championship game with team letter. For the playoffs the team wore a new shirt for each game so this shirt shows good single game use.

Watters 94 nonTB worn against the Eagles in the blowout loss which turned the season around. Nice use with multiple repairs as probably worn in preseason and thru the Eagles game. Team letter included.

Jerry Rice event worn jersey for launch of Madden 2010 for the flag football game with NFL COA.

Here is the 1995 Rice with both 49ers and MOS COA.

It shows rubbing on the #s on both front and back and some wear on one of the shoulders. This was framed for years with his game used gloves and i am guessing thats how the auto faded although it was out of the sun and framed under UV protective glass. Strange.

I would prefer a trade for other 49ers gamers but if not then enjoy checking it out!

Always paying top $$$$ for quality 49ers gamers and will absolutely ANNIHILATE any other offer out there!!!!

I've got 2 Montana's, I know Lund has a nice one too. We probably should start a Montana only thread.

Look at this 97 Steve Young. I have 2. I decided to sell one a while back and sent it to a auction house. It was given to me by Kevin Greene who acquired it directly from Young after the Buc's game, the first 49er name Kevin played in. Kevin tagged the jersey with a piece of tape. I did not try to photo match it as I knew it was real and did not question it. This jersey was refuse by the authenicator due to the fact it had a number change. He said that would not happen with Young. I was stunned at this. So I took 5 minutes and went to Getty. Here is what I found, a exact photo match (72574059) to the number change. It told me that not much time was spent checking out the story on this jersey. You be the authenicator. Would you say OK?

What is interesting is that i have another Steve Young 1997 home shirt worn against the Saints with the exact same characteristics! It has the remnants of the 50th patch and a number change just like the shirt that Roger posted way back when (and which i now own). I wonder why the 49ers would recycle two 1996 shirts for Young to use in 1997? They also removed the 1996 tag from the tail and replaced it with a 1997. The one i have worn vs the Saints is also photo-matched so i know it is genuine. Strange. If anyone has any additional information about why they would do this please chime in.

Also if anyone has any idea of how to figure out the old # that was replaced please let me know. i have tried looking at it in the sun from all angles and using a small black light but no dice.

1994 Merton Hanks home non-throwback with team letter. I thought this shirt was a fake at first, as i could see the old outline of the 75th patch ABOVE the chest seam! It had been removed and sewn on below the seam like all of the 49er 1994 gamers. I looked at a William Floyd non-throwback i have from 1994 and same thing! The Floyd is photomatched with "Bronco tape" so it is genuine. i think the team first put the patches above the seam and thought they didnt look good and then moved them.

Brent Jones 1994 throwback with team letter worn in NFC Championship game

JJ Stokes rookie 1995 gamer worn vs Falcons where he caught Rice's ONLY TD pass of his career.

These are both shirts i have posted already but sent them to Denver Autographs who, in turn, has them signed at player appearances. Denver Autographs are first rate! They handle the shirts with care and do their best to get the player to sign what you want. I have sent them literally 40K worth of shirts over the last few years and always smooth sailing!

They told me that generally people DONT send in non game used shirts to have signed as game used, which is good. They also tend to have some idea of what is and is not game used before they ask someone to sign it as such.

Deion and Rickey Jackson would NOT sign game used but Rice did. They also get a picture of the player signing the shirt. For superstars it is not cheap though. They said Rice didnt really check out the shirt all that much when he signed it. When John Taylor signed his (thru Leftys in SF-not Denver Auto) he really was happy to see his gamers. What was interesting is that both places said that they really dont handle all that much game used stuff and they rarely see it.

I plan to send in my Crabtree, Steve Young and any other new pickups that are at the Bay Area show in August via Denver to get signed as well. Too bad it is so hard to find many of these great players from the 1990s as they just dont sign much.

Shipp 96, I think Blitzmaster posted a photo of his entire collection on GUU not too long ago. For sure Blitzmaster has one of the most impressive collections of game used NFL helmets I have seen.

Thanks for the kind words, I did post a picture of my alot of my helmets that I have stored in my garage but nothing permanent yet. Did one of some jerseys a couple of years ago from my roof but it needs to be updated
