Hey there and great question. I got a excited when I saw the jersey and bid before I did my homework:( I thought I was adding a great jersey to my Fitzgerald collection until I looked at game photos from the entire season then I was offered the real jersey that was acquired directly from Fitz and I was more than Happy to have the real jersey.

I saw the game issued HOF and Camo Patch Fitz jersey on NFL auctions that was sold as game worn and I saw that the patches were in the wrong place and then I laid eyes on the real one that you see posted here recently. The jersey with the mud on it is the exact jersey worn in that game. The guys at NFL auctions are fantastic but the equipment guys are just making errors.

Could this be all mistakes made by the Cardinals equipment managers? I bid on a helmet this year on nfl auctions, and it just says "game worn 2012 helmet signed by Sam acho". When I got the helmet, it was a 2009 Darnell dockett #90 helmet, with BCA decal in the rear. There was tape inside the helmet also labeling it a dockett '09 helmet. Acho has only worn riddell revolutions, and dockett has only worn vsr-4's.

Interesting that all of these mistakes have been made by the same team...

I felt like you at first...... Then I did my homework and Fitz only wore black jerseys in 2013 to date vs the Texans (has Camo Captain's Patch) and vs the Panthers and both of these jerseys are owned and in private collections.

Sorry, I wasn't clear below. I was merely trying to state that he could have worn two jerseys in the Carolina game. One in each half.

I didn't see any markings in the photos that I viewed that conclusively matched the stains on the current NFL Auction's jersey. I get what you are saying below. I simply compared the photos of the jersey he walked onto the field with in the first half against the one he walked off of the field with after the second half. From that sample, there appears to be a loose thread on the captain's patch (that may match the NFL Auctions shirt) at the start of the game that is not evident in the photos from the second half. Hence, they appear different to me.

You indicated that the two black (2013) Fitzgerald shirts are in private collections. I have no reason to doubt that.

Below Paul457 mentioned that he was the high bidder on the jersey currently up for auction. I'm simply replying to his post that LF may have worn multiple jerseys in those games, and perhaps lending him some comfort with his bid. Only my opinion, and certainly not fact. Any potential buyer has to conduct their proper diligence.

The pictures included here reference my point below. Nothing conclusive, but certainly possible he wore two shirts. The last pic appears consistent with the one you own.

I'd have to watch footage of the game to get comfortable and try to better document the wear shown on the jersey(s). This would be my point to a potential bidder for the current auction.

I think Jason's onto something regarding the black Fitz jersey. Looking at video highlights, there's an interception in the second qtr where Larry falls on his right shoulder. It would be very interesting for a member with NFL Rewind to look at the back of his jersey near the end of the first half. It might match the one in the auction.

Seems like the mega-stars wearing two jerseys is becoming fairly common. Didn't Favre always wear two? I believe it happens in basketball quite often as well.

I was thinking about that possibility as well, but I couldn't find any pictures to prove that out. I can see the thread you're talking about, and it's definitely a step in the right direction. Also, the placement of the captain's patch seems consistent between your pictures and the NFL Auction pics.

I REALLY wish NFL Auctions (and MLB Auctions for that matter) would provide us with multiple, quality pictures.

The stains / dirt in the NFL Auction picture (back of jersey) appear to be very light, IMHO those COULD have been from pre-game stretching.

I'm still not 100% sold on this jersey, and emailed NFL Auctions to cancel my bids. Verified - you're the next high bidder, so I'd suggest you email them as well so you don't get stuck with it!

I had something similar happen to me when I won a Colin Kaepernick jersey a few months ago on NFL Auctions. The jersey smelled like it had been worn but it showed minimal use. I could not photo match it to the game it was listed as worn in. I contacted NFL Auctions and was told that many players wear two shirts a game now and that the Kaepernick was worn in either half. This fact was not listed in the auction. I asked for and received a full refund. Scott also contacted the 49er equipment manager to verify that the jersey was indeed worn in the game listed (which it was but worn only for a half). The shirt was then relisted with the information that it was not worn for the full game and that it was collected by NFL auctions from the equipment manager right after the game. It had originally sold to me for over 9K but upon relisitng it sold for around 3500$.

Always buying 49er game worn items especially game worn jerseys with team letters. Actively looking to add any 1994 49er gamers and a Steve Young USFL game worn jersey.

VAC, I believe you have a fantastic LF jersey with a conclusive photo match. And based upon what you have written here, you also have impeccable provenance.

I'm not challenging that and I'm not trying to offend you. I was just responding to another member's concern about a jersey he (and you) bid on. My only point was that he could have started the game with a different jersey than he ended it with.

I agree that yours is on his back when the game ended. I'm not as certain that it was when the game started. That's all. Cheers!

I did see that earlier. FWIW, I took a quick look through some of the game footage on Game Rewind. Fitzgerald does appear to end both halves in your jersey, based on what I can see anyway. It would be helpful if the entire front "11" was visible on the NFL Auction jersey.

I'm still thrown a bit by the apparent loose thread on the "C" patch (which resembles the one currently being auctioned). It is easy to spot on his jersey prior to kickoff, but not later in the game. Obviously, multiple jerseys would benefit the NFL's charitable efforts. But I'm not certain that is the case here though.

Would be nice to hear the explanation from NFL Auctions. Did Fitzgerald indicate whether or not he wore more than one jersey when you acquired it? And as I mentioned before, it's one heck of a pick up on your part. All the best!

Look on the bottom of the back, white '11' digits. There's a seam on the jersey itself, which runs underneath the sewn-on digits on the back. You can see the indentation of that seam on the back numbers.

Locate the seam on each picture. In the pre game picture, that seam looks to be ~ 1/4" from the bottom of the back digits, on the NFL Auctions jersey, that seam looks to be ~1" from the bottom of the digits.

Still no reply from NFL Auctions - shocker! :rolleyes:

No, was outbid on the auction but Meigray was awesome working with me on the Jets. I have an Eric Smith Jets so would rather of had the Giants but hopefully one will pop up again! I think there are several out there unless the same one keeps floating. To be honest I was a bit surprised at the price but I will keep looking!

Dexter McCluster 2010 rookie game used helmet (Chiefs/JO COA)
McCluster reminds me somewhat of my favorite player growing up, Dave Meggett (same DM initials, #22, returners, pass catchers, small size, etc). This helmet was used during his rookie season and appears to be last used in the playoff loss to the Ravens 1/9/11. There is a paint chip present seen on the game photo also able to be seen on the helmet currently. Chinstrap is present on the helmet with McClusters #22 present on the strap. McCluster made his first Pro Bowl this year as a punt returner.

With JOSports gone…no one seems the be getting game worn gamers in the volume and variety of teams Jarrod did. Meigray has some…like a few Jets they purchased and the Redskins throwbacks, plus the Eagles throwbacks but no significant volume appears to be available. NFL Auctions has had a few and I hope they keep selling some from time to time.

I hear that! Very sad.

Although JO received a lot of 2009 AFL "Legacy" helmets from the Broncos, they were only able to secure two lids afterward. 2011 Orton (which I snagged) and 2011 Brandon Lloyd's. JO's last Hurrah with the Broncos.

Hopefully Panini might start getting lids, but that, unfortunately, only helps Broncos collectors out.

Three new pickups for the 1994 49er collection!!!

1994 Steve Young home non throwback with team letter. Worn vs Denver in the preseason. I owned this shirt some years ago and was thrilled to finally get it back when it popped up in the last SCP Auction. The tagging on the jersey has a date code from 1992 (EW) so the shirt was recycled from 1992 to 1994. It is also lacking the Wilson W on either sleeve.

1994 Ricky Watters home non throwback. Custom sleeves and nice use with numerous hit marks and field paint on the left sleeve. Most likely worn in the preseason as I have the jerseys Watters wore vs the Raiders and vs the Eagles.

Today I acquired my first 2 NFL gamers and I am extremely excited. First off, I would like to express my gratitude towards this forum. It provided me with the connections that ultimately led to me adding these jerseys to my collection. So thank you GUU for existing! :D

The first is a 2012 AJ Green Bengals jersey.This jersey was worn in the preseason against Atlanta on 8/16/12. AJ had 2 catches for 59 yards, and a touchdown. Without going in to many details, I was able to attend this game with AJ's parents and it was an experience that I will never forget. A huge thank you to fellow GUU member Ryan Himes for helping me add this jersey to my collection. AJ is my favorite player in the NFL and the fact that I'm able to own his jersey from a game that I attended is really special.

The second is a 2013 Blair Walsh game worn home jersey. This jersey may have been worn in multiple home games but I have specifically photomatched it to the Vikings home game vs the Carolina Panthers on 10/13/13. Blair has been a favorite of mine since he first came onto the scene at the University of Georgia. I had the chance to meet him in 2010 in Jacksonville before the annual Georgia-Florida game and he's really a great guy. I tweeted him pictures of this jersey and he actually responded!(see screeshot below) I'd like to thank fellow GUU member NFLELCollector for helping me add this to my collection. One of my favorite jerseys.... New Orleans Saints home jersey used in 1980 by Henry Childs and in 1981 by rookie Hoby Brenner. Childs was a tight end who like his sleeves customized to be skin-tight, and when Brenner was given the jersey in 1981, spandex was added to widen the sleeves back out. The thread from the original "Childs" nameplate is still found on the jersey.

I enjoy owning this piece, which was worn by both tight ends on the All-Time Saints team!


Great piece of Saints history Commando! I got to meet Henry Childs a few years ago at a Saints Hall of Fame gathering and he is a very nice guy.

Golden Tate 2013 game used jersey
worn week 17 (12/29) against the Rams, when the Seahawks wrapped up the #1 seed on their way to a SB win. Tate had career highs in both receptions (8) and yards (129) for a TD (47 yarder) with 1 rush and 2 punt returns as well. This jersey was acquired from the Seahawks and comes with a team letter. Inside of the neck tag the date and week of use is written. Pretty heavy single game use for a wide receiver as a few unrepaired holes exist and some paint transfers. The last photo shows the Home jersey with a Tate away jersey (from his 1st TD game)

These cleats were worn on Thanksgiving day against the Lions at Ford Field. Welker had 8 catches for 90 yards and 2 TDs as the Patriots rolled 45-24. Welker inscribed both cleats "Vs. Detroit Lions '10 Thanksgiving Day." I acquired these directly from Welker's website.

Troy Brown game used cleats 2002-04 era (Patriots COA)
Patriots fan favorite Troy Brown cleats. The cleats have holes made in the toe area on both. Brown's #80 is written on each heal. Grass blades are still attached to the bottom spikes.

I don't think it's from cutting off the tape. I have seen the holes on some Golden Tate cleats that I had as well. I believe that it is to reduce pressure on some of the toes, but cannot say for sure. I myself have never done that to any of my own cleats but I have seen it done on other Pats players as well like Ty Law and Tom Brady.

Deion Branch 2012 game used jersey (BCA, PSA/DNA cert)
I was fortunate to pick this up in the Hunt Super Bowl Auction. Jersey was last worn by the Super Bowl 39 MVP on 10/14/2012 against the Seahawks. The jersey is unwashed. Some remnant blue field paint is on the back of the jersey. Branch had a catch and a solo tackle (his 24th career and last tackle, on Richard Sherman) in the game. The jersey has elastic cuffed sleeves and an elastic waistband.

I don't see much if any Danny boy in here so thought I would post this even though it's college. A photo has proven very elusive, Marino supposedly only wore tearaways in his freshman year and there are few photos of any Pitt road games that season, plus he split time with Rick Trocano making for even less opportunity for photos, and on top of that this particular style has been difficult to style match for any player at all. Heat-pressed numerals, different font than normally seen on Pitt, very distinctive "1" shape, same size numerals front and back, no sleeve numbers.

In fact the road version with the unique "1" font is likely the single toughest style match of all the many variations of Pitt jerseys from 1973-83 or so, some of which went 7 or 8 years between issues (such as the one Marino wore in the 82 opener against North Carolina, with the reversed sleeve stripes showing that jersey was likely recycled from 1974 or 1975).

It's been a frustrating search because when this jersey first popped up several years ago I distinctly remembered seeing it when I was a kid, and I thought I remembered Marino wearing it.

However there is a photo-op shot of Marino wearing a blue version of this style on Getty (image 158372317). And, recently I did finally find a shot of another player wearing a road version in an actual game, ironically with Marino in the photo as well (Gator Bowl, sophomore year). So at least my memory of the style is vindicated though a style match of Marino wearing it in a game or at least on the sideline with Trocano playing is likely still a long way off.

And here was a tough decision...adding Ray Lewis. Whats cool is the 9/11 game was against the ravens so the rips, tears, markings in Rays jersey was caused by these same Pitt jerseys. I posted game screen shots to match it which came out well if you havent seen them yet. Worth the look up.

Ok. Time to get back on point and lock it down. I think I got all the Steelers GU 9/11 jerseys except one. According to the registry.

Its actually my favorite groupings and prob went overboard in bidding. But considering the scaricity of Pitt GU jerseys out there, the 9/11's are def worth it. Took about 4 months to accumulate them all.

Love the helmets Perleman! The wear on the Falcons lid is terrific! And I never get tired of those throwbacks! The Rams helmets will always be a beauty in my eyes...it's amazing to think of the detail involved in getting those horn decals in place on each and every helmet. I have heard that back in the day when don Hewitt was the equipment manager, he would almost replace the ram decals weekly, depending on the wear.

Thanks! Was iffy on the Falcons when listed on ebay and when I got it first Travis Hall photos I saw from 2003 showed a snap chin guard, but found few pix as season's end with the screw-in chin guard so felt better. Not sure why he switched from snap to screw but was nice to find.

They didn't. Just were cool helmets and pulled the trigger. I would always use them as trade bait for former MSU alum but I have a helmet collection of non-MSU players that hopefully some day can be turned around into MSU alum. I am always a sucker from throwbacks, too for some reason

Jason, I echo 'jhunt28' and 'helmets' - several very nice pickups. I've a 2010 Eagles throwback of Jorrick Calvin #38 I added to my NFL collection a year or so ago from a fellow member. Pictures in my opinion do not do justice to the 2010 Eagle throwbacks. Again nice pickups and I too, love the wear on the Falcons helmet.

SJS....I would really do my homework on the items this guy has posted on Columbus/Dayton, Ohio Craigslist (game worn items he has for sale). I think he lives near Dayton area, Vandalia. Some are legit, some are not. The #45 wasn't worn by Katzenmoyer, this style jersey was sold through the Ohio State University gift shops I believe. The Eddie George #27 road white is from 1989 I believe, not 1992-1995. Look at the Champion tagging. The Bengals Griffin helmet has the number 45 on back and is enough to send some excitement but the rest of the helmet is hard to find a photo match on the striping and also Griffin wore a different style mask and black facemask clips. Hard to throw away $750 if it wasn't a true Archie worn helmet. He has the Barry Sanders tagged 1994 Reebok Detroit Lions home jersey supposedly game worn listed at $1700. I would try to look at them in person esp. the helmet and make sure there are no number changes on the decals on the back and get the helmet date code on the top of the inside crown area. There should be a couple of numbers inside the circle. Looks like early 1980's VSR-3 style helmet. Again do your homework.

My 2004 Torrie Cox helmet. He tore his ACL in the pre season so it didn't see a lot of action but its got some good marks on it anyway. And he changed his number to 27 in 2005 so Carnell Williams the new #1 draft pick could have #24.

Shout out to board member "RKGIBSON".

It was a pleasure to work out a deal with him on this Vaughan Johnson game used New Orleans Saints Helmet from the Reggie White Estate Collection. Super excited to add this helmet to my growing game worn NC State Alum Collection.

Helmet has tons of prominence as this was a gift from Vaughan to Reggie White. Reggie was a collector himself who often exchanged helmets with opposing players after games. Vaughan wore this during the entire 1991 regular season and 1991 Pro Bowl game. Helmet is hammered with use with tons of battle scars.

Vaughan was a member of the Saints legendary "Dome Patrol" defense alongside Sam Mills, Pat Swilling & Ricky Jackson in the late 80's and early 90's. Vaughan was also a standout linebacker at North Carolina State University.

Today I acquired my first 2 NFL gamers and I am extremely excited. First off, I would like to express my gratitude towards this forum. It provided me with the connections that ultimately led to me adding these jerseys to my collection. So thank you GUU for existing! :D

The first is a 2012 AJ Green Bengals jersey.This jersey was worn in the preseason against Atlanta on 8/16/12. AJ had 2 catches for 59 yards, and a touchdown. Without going in to many details, I was able to attend this game with AJ's parents and it was an experience that I will never forget. A huge thank you to fellow GUU member Ryan Himes for helping me add this jersey to my collection. AJ is my favorite player in the NFL and the fact that I'm able to own his jersey from a game that I attended is really special.

The second is a 2013 Blair Walsh game worn home jersey. This jersey may have been worn in multiple home games but I have specifically photomatched it to the Vikings home game vs the Carolina Panthers on 10/13/13. Blair has been a favorite of mine since he first came onto the scene at the University of Georgia. I had the chance to meet him in 2010 in Jacksonville before the annual Georgia-Florida game and he's really a great guy. I tweeted him pictures of this jersey and he actually responded!(see screeshot below) I'd like to thank fellow GUU member NFLELCollector for helping me add this to my collection. I won a fantastic Randy Moss gamer in the recent SCP Auction.

Certification is from NFL Auction. The jersey was worn in Randy's return to the Metrodome on 10/17/10 vs. the Dallas Cowboys. It was his last home game as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Worn during the last five-reception game of his career, Moss he passed Hall of Famer Art Monk to move into 9th place on the NFL's career receptions list.

Hasnt this become common practice? Id assume many players wear two jerseys every game nowadays. With the market for gamers where it is and these swaps at the end of the games, they would have to wear multiple jerseys just to meet demand.

This thread was a few pages away so I thought I'd bring it a little closer. Posted this in the Dolphins thread yesterday. Finally after about 5 years of selling most of my stuff, I now have some new. Kudos to my wife for her support and giving me some space to have my cave. The Randy Starks is only issued but the Jason Trusnik and Nate Garner show use with the Garner having the most use. Golden Tate 2014 game used Lions jersey (PSA/DNA)

The former Golden Domer's best professional season so far was in 2014 when he hauled in 99 passes for 1,331 yards and 4 TDs and made the Pro Bowl. Tate first added the "Tate III" to the nameplate of his jersey in 2014. This is my favorite Tate jersey that I have in my collection. There are 10 team repairs present on the jersey in addition to hit marks/paint transfers throughout. The jersey is unwashed and was first offered to the public through NFL Auctions STS campaign. I missed out on the jersey then and was able to add it this year. The jersey is a size 40 Nike Skill cut and tagged to the 2014 season. The repair above the front 1 can be seen starting in week 2 and is present throughout home games until it was last used in week 10. The Lions William Clay Ford Sr. (He passed away in 2014) patch is present on the front.
Tate wore this jersey in the following games:

Week 1 MNF vs NYG: 6 rec 93 yards, 1 att 4 yards
Week 2 @Carolina: 5 rec 57 yards
Week 3 vs. GB: 5 rec 51 yards
Week 5 vs. Buf: 7 rec 134 yards 1 TD
Week 7 vs. NO: 10 rec 154 yards 1 TD
Week 10 vs. Mia: 11 rec 109 yards

Totals: 44 rec 598 rec yards 2 TDs, 1 att 4 yards

Glad it was not just me... I can think of a couple of reasons for the brown side panels...

a) Brett forgot to put deodorant on that day.
b) This was back when "Copper Fit" was just starting out.
c) Hopped up on pain meds when he signed it.
d) My color blindness, which I don't have, is acting up.

I checked getty in 95, 96, and 97 and saw no color matches. If this truly is his jersey and you have a great photo match that would be amazing but I am always saddened by all of the "fake" game used Favre stuff out there. If you do have a match, please share the photo, as it is always good to become more knowledgeable with jersey styles. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting, it does look like Heritage Auctions sold several Packers jerseys from 96 several years ago and some of them did have this fading. There is a thread here on GUU from a while ago about another Favre jersey from the same year but without any discoloration. I only have one Packers jersey from 99, a Joe Johnson jersey but it is made by a different manufacturer, Nike I think. Anyway, thanks for sharing the jersey and the information.

These are Starter jerseys and the side panels are a stretch fabric that can change color over time. Some jerseys get it worse than others. I collect Gators jerseys and Starter made the theirs for most of the 90's. These side panels are/were blue and some have faded to purplish hue over time.

Anyway, as someone already said, it's best to ignore this color change as an indicator of legitimacy. Congrats on the Favre.

Just to add to this....

in the espn 30 for 30 "four falls of buffalo" towards the end of the documentary there is a scene with don beebe sitting in his home office, and behind him is his 1996 packers super bowl jersey framed. You can clearly see the brown the side panels on that jersey also.

Golden Tate 2013 game used jersey
worn week 17 (12/29) against the Rams, when the Seahawks wrapped up the #1 seed on their way to a SB win. Tate had career highs in both receptions (8) and yards (129) for a TD (47 yarder) with 1 rush and 2 punt returns as well. This jersey was acquired from the Seahawks and comes with a team letter. Inside of the neck tag the date and week of use is written. Pretty heavy single game use for a wide receiver as a few unrepaired holes exist and some paint transfers. The last photo shows the Home jersey with a Tate away jersey (from his 1st TD game)

Nice “crush” jersey of DT. May he rest in piece.
