here are two 1994 arod mariners rookie alt game worn jerseys being offered at the same time. i noticed such a drastic diffrence in both jerseys in terms of the tagging and look of each jersey. one from gfc has NO arod COA but it states it is signed and inscribed by arod as "game worn", but upclose pics show very little to no use on it.

http://www.greyflannelauctions.com/showdetail.cfm?CategoryNum=1&Lot=122

on the other hand this is the one lelands is offering which has diffrent tagging than the one in gfc and appears to have the correct tagging, also signed and inscribed by arod as "game worn" but also HAS a COA from AROD stating it is game worn! and this one in lelands has some use on it!

http://www.lelands.com/bid.aspx?auctionid=711&lot=205

no suprise to me one in a lesser know auction house with the correct specs and coa is gettin already 30-40 percent more and one i expect will end at least at a 40+% higher price.

so which one do you think is real????

lets see, Teal was used from 1994 through 1996.....
Example 1 has a 1994 Russell tag, Example 2 has 1996 Russell tag.

Example 2 has a Arod Hologram, which wasnt used in the 1990's...which just could mean he signed it 10 years later.

But Example 1 has the correct tag, has a great auto and period correct cert.

I would go with Example 1 if I were buying one :)

But, one other note the date tag....The 94 vs. 1994 would need to be checked out.

I have not seen enough 94 jerseys to out right say it should be "1994'.

That would be something I would investigate further.

Ty-
Based on Rudy's earlier post on Russell tagging, it appears that the Grey Flannel jersey has tagging representative of a style incorproated into Russell shirts from 1996-1999.

The A-Rod shirts in question are described as being worn in 1994.

I've purchased several Mariners jerseys from the folks at Lelands over the years, and all have proven to be rock solid. Combined with my past experieinces with Lelands, and the fact that their A-Rod has his LOA, in my opionion it's a "no brainer" as to which jersey I would purchase.

HI Howard,
I agree and thats what I was trying to state, the one has a 1996 Russell tag. Thus its a 1996 Teal jersey which was the last year of issue of that Alt jersey.

Also note the the Lelands one has a 94 date tag vs 1994. Almost all, if not all M's jerseys I have seen have the full year, such as 1994.

That take the Lelands one from a no brainer to a smothing to be checked out.

Ty

The only 2 examples I can provide of the 2 digit year code for the Mariners is the 1996 Teal alts. I have 2 of them now and one was obtained direct from the team. If you follow the link Howard provided to the Tagging Primer you can see one example I posted there. My other one is the exact same as that, so no need for another scan.

I'd lean towards the Lelands one since I know the M's have used a 2 digit year code at one point and the GFC has tagging from 2 years later than what should be on there. As a side note, both of the teal jerseys are from 1994 regardless of tagging, the 1995 and 1996's were changed slightly.

Thanks Jeremy

what size are two you have. Arod was a late callup with only I think 17 or so games, could explain the variance.

I guess I should have noted, neither of the two alts. I have are Arods. While I would have gladly put on in my collection years ago, I'm a bitter Mariners and baseball fan that can't let it go. It's just my own opinion on the guy, the only good thing I see is he will eventually break the HR record.

I really have no idea what size it should be for 94 but I would think it'd be on the smaller side, or did the baggy look already start by 1994?

Jeremy-

Can you advise as to if they are stars or commons?

I would be interested to hear from other collectors how many have size 44 ARods.

Feel free to email me at TyMoore122@hotmail.com if you dont want to post.

Technically I dont know if he had enough at bats (54) to qualify 1994 as his "rookie" year, he was part of the July call ups and only played the month of July.

Ty

Based on my recent email, I would say that the Leland's one looks pretty good.

While the size 44 isn't a deal killer I have looked at several resources including the MEARS DB, Internet searches, Henderson publication and the couple ARod jerseys I have owned and still say the size is questionable.

In 1994 ARod did not have enough at bats to qualify for the rookie of the year, so it is a debut jersey....not a rookie jersey.

Sad day for someone....

The GFC item went for $24,000......I thought when I looked the other day it was around $30,000, was I wrong or have bidders started pulling out?

The one that meets the specs only went for $9,000, I think someone got a great buy there.

Cheers
