Weights of game used bats not matching factory records

Several reputable dealers and authenticators have recently told me that bats from the 1960 and 1970's that are either 2 ounces too heavy or light are within an accetable range for matching factory records. For example, factory records may show a player ordered a 34" bat weighing 32 ounces. However, the dealers and authenticators think that a bat 34" in lenght and weighing 34 ounces is part of that shipment.

    What are your opinions?

      Hi Scott--

This is a question that has been debated several times in GUU with some very interesting commentary. Here are two of the better threads that discuss this subject in depth:

      http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=1341&highlight=weight

      http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=1258&highlight=weight

If you use the GUU search function on this topic, with the search words bat weight you will come up with 15 pages of threads --- the most relevant, such as the two above, are easy to pick out....

      Good Luck
