A Seller said this jersey comes with 'Grey Flannel COA '

So it must be a real..

But..I've never seen a jersey with stitched NBA logo Gold Patch?

NBA Logo patch must be sewn, doesn't it?

So far I've seen some replica jerseys which have a stitched NBA logo..

But game used jersey with it?

I have a Shaq GU jersey Laker 1996-97 (also first year with the Lakers) with a golden NBA, signifying that he was voted as a top 50 player. Also a Greyflannel LOA. An identical item is in current Vintage Authentics and I've seen identical Shaq's on AMI, Bricol etc. I've never seen a Kobe, though. Take a look at the Shaq and tell me what you think.

The gold NBA silhouette, used only during the 1996-97 season to honor the NBA's 50th year.

I looked at my Shaq jersey and the gold NBA seal is different than the one depicted in the Kobe jersey, in that, the background is not stitched and and the background holes are aparrent. Again, it is my understanding it was given only to those who nominated as a top 50 player.

It seems from looking at a few game photos from 96 that the background is unstitched. This is on all players uniforms. It's a bit more difficult to see it on the Lakers Jerseys, but they have a few upclose shots where you can see the difference. Good luck.

I have 96-97 game issued jerseys...but their NBA gold logos(Pistons & Bulls) are sewn as you see in the bottom pic.

But the logo of the e-bay item is just stitched.

So I just wonder if it's only for Lakers uniform since team color is yellow.

I haven't been able to find enough photo evidence to go either way. It does seem that they wore both during the season? Here are a few photos. The most interesting ones are of shaq with a normal nba logo during the season.

Look at Lot 456 in the current Vintage auction. The Shaq jersey logo is identical to the Bulls and Pistons you have displayed, in that, they all are unstitched. The Shaq I have is the same as Lot 456. Good pic's, never saw a Kobe before, now I have. Always thought it only went to the 50 top. Thanks

Every NBA jersey worn in the 1996/97 season had the gold NBA logo. It was ABSOLUTELY NOT just for Shaq or the other members of the top 50 all-time that were still active. It was worn by all players to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the NBA.

True. And you would occasionally see the regular logo if the player was wearing a jersey that was manufactured in years prior. I think this was Iverson's rookie year and I recall basketball cards which showed him with both the gold and regular logo patch.

Greg, while we are at it, look at the picture of Kobe and Shaq above that Nate posted. Kobe has the gold logo and Shaq has the old color logo.

As Mr. T said when I met him after an 8th grade graduation ceremony back in the early 1990s - "Weird, wild, happen' stuff going on in there".

Not to change the subject, but I asked this question before and no one knew the answer, but, here it goes again, I have a Kobe 2000-01 Laker Home jersey, which on the left side along the vertical white stripe that separates the front from the back has a black thin (perhaps 1/8 inch) tag with 5 vertical sliver dots that go down it. The length is about an inch. I think it is some kind of identifying tag, does anyone know for sure.

Thanks, I'm going on a business trip for about a week, should be able to send it afterward. Thanks for your help.

The embroidery is poorly done, it's an amateur job. The Jerry West silhouette is just horrible. In my opinion, the patch itself is not authentic. Also, on the front of the jersey, the Lakers logo and the number 8 are too close to each other.
