The top 2 are my old vehicle plates. They changed plated styles a few years back, so the current offerings are now on my car and truck. The 3rd one is from a fellow Dr. J. collector.

When I moved to Illinois, it seemed everyone had personalized plates. I couldn't imagine everyone was paying for these and then found out first timers could get letter/number combos (1-5, 2-4, 3-3, 4-2, 5-1) for a minimal amount...not sure, might have even been free.

Great plates! Unfortunately, I'm too cheap to change mine.

Greg, you are correct. In Illinois, you used to be able to get a letter/number combo the first time for the same price that a generic combo would have cost you. I'm not sure it is that way anymore. I think our beloved governor has changed that.

I just bought a car. The dealer told me it was a Maserati. I gave it a good washing, and it turns out to be a Mazda. It has house speakers in the back seat and an 8-Track player. I couldn't return it...the dealer said "all sales final". One good thing, it has a "new car scent" tree-from-the-mirror.

That wasnt the scent tree that you smelled, it was the smell of greed with a splash of impropriety and a hint of ineptitude.......

Thanks for a great laugh. Note the expiration sticker of 2002 on the license plate too----I wonder if there is some BTPH significance with that!

Was 2002 the last Lampson sighting?

The car dealer explained this to me. He said a 2002 registration sticker was valid until at least 2009. Thankfully, I'm covered. He also said that I shouldn't bother to get insurance. He said most drivers in L.A. are very careful drivers and the chance of an accident are slim to none.

Are you certain it wasn't the 100% Car Dealer Team?

YES! Otis, I guess you know the dealership. Except they only guarantee 28% of my "pre-owned" vehicle. The 100% Team refuses to use the term "used". Determining value to a pre-owned car is not an exact science.

Agreed.

And if the interior is damaged due to say, oh, flood damage, then I think it's perfectly acceptable to add a new facemask, I mean interior, to make the vehicle look historically accurate.

Can anyone provide photographic evidence that would suggest a factory Pinto wagon came with spinners and an 8" lift?

Just bought the New York Yankees License Plate frame to go around the plate. This is the final look. Less than 2 weeks and waiting, and early enough before baseball season!

Changed the plate. Looks much better without the guy fishing in the board.

Ready for baseball!!!

My Illinois plates have been "NBA MJ 23" since the early 1990's. I've only had them stolen once. Waiting for them to show up in an auction somewhere as having been used on Jordan's vehicle.

Not sports related but my license plates say IMA JEDI
The day I put them on my car, I drove to the gas station and as I was paying, the Punjabi gas guy said "May de Forzz bee whitch joo" Easily made my day.

Oh and OtisMalibu, a Pinto with spinners and a lift kit was pure comedy gold.

This thread is hysterical.

Anyone else in IL get the notice that you can get your plates replaced for free due to some bad batches that prematurely rust?

I don't know if I posted this before (too lazy to look), but 50-year Chicago Ballhawk Rich Buhrke has plates that read "SOXCUB1".

Well, at least your story was a good one with your license plate.

I had to change my license plate from "AROD13" to "1 NYY 1" because of the "middle finger" abuse I was taking.

Once I changed it to 1 NYY 1, I get nothing but "thumps up" and positive comments (except from those Red Sox fans).

You should move to Los Angeles. Nobody knows or cares who Arod is. However, you may get the middle finger for coming to a complete stop at a stop-sign.

Andrew, not the last sighting, just the last time he ever authenticated a piece without multiple mistakes and oversights.
