I just purchased a group of bats and was told that the Del Ennis bat that was in the group could possibly be a game used bat. How would I go about finding out if this is the case? I don't buy many bats so I don't have much knowledge in this. A brief description of the bat is that it has Del Ennis' signature on the end of the bat with the words Personal Model around it. It has the older Adirondack label which says REG.U.S. PAT.OFF, McLAUGHLIN-MILLARD INC., Northern White Ash, ADIRONDACK, 302, DOLGEVILLE- NEW YORK, MADE IN U.S.A. and Flexible Whip Action. The knob also has a 72A on it. Any help that someone can give would be appreciated. I can get some pictures later tonight if they are needed.

Hi--

The barrel and senter labeling are consistent with the Adirondack labeling for the period 1951-1957. In addition, on a professional Adirondack bat, there must be a pro model number stamped onto the knob. This would generally be a two or three digit number followed by a letter, such as 73B, 288A, or something similar. If you can, please post a photo of the knob, with the number(s)/letter visible, plus note the length of the bat. Otherwise, just describe all stamped markings on the knob and note the length of the bat, and you'll have an answer quickly.

Good Luck

Mike,

I tried to get a picture of hte marking on the knob but it didn't come out very well. The numbers on the end of the bat are 72 A. I am at work and will measure the bat when I get the chance.

Hi Dave-- That would be a pro model number, and I think you will find the length of the bat to be between 35 to 35 1/2 inches. Very nice. Here is a reference site to assist you with pro bat identification in the future .

Thanks for all of the information Mike. Any idea as to what something like this might be worth? I will probably keep it for a while and was just curious.

Dave--

The Bushing/Mastro guide has it valued at $500, however a forum member sold one on Ebay for around half of that. So, say $300 to $500, and more toward the higher end if you can find the 1950 Phillies Whiz Kids team collector.

Good Luck
