Re: Payton reissue being sold as GI
Matte screen-printed numbers, stripes, and nameplate instead of glossy heat-pressed vinyl....... perfectly squared Wilson tag sewn on with white thread instead of the more-rectangular tag sewn with navy thread. Nameplate not covering the transverse seam between the yoke and the body.
All of the above characteristics are indicative of either a 1993 or 1999 limited edition reissue put out by Wilson to commemorate Payton's induction into the HOF and then his death.
I own both a 1985 season Payton and one of the reissues. They're quite different. The seller's is a reissue.Comment

Re: Payton reissue being sold as GI
Suave, I suppose either term might apply. Most refer to them as "reissues" as they were made exactly like Payton's original gamers, same size, same cut, same printed graphics and not twill, (save for the above-mentioned details), by the original manufacturer.
I can't thnk of another instance in the NFL where this has happened before.....the original manufacturer re-releaseing a player's jersey years after his retirement, with nearly the same specs as the originals. Hence the term, "reissue", I guess.Comment
