Best Game Used item you ever got directly from a player

I would have to say my two best were a George Brett cracked bat that teammate Larry Gura gave to me during a game and the other would be my James Worthy basketball shoes that he gave directly to me after a game one time.

I got these when I was a kid back in the early 80's when it was easier to get stuff directly from players and they were actually more willing to give it you.

I've gotten a few things directly from players.

Carlos Villanueva SP from the Milwaukee Brewers gave me his cleats and signed them after last season and we became friends.

Got game used baseballs from lots of different players on the Milwaukee Brewers

Got a pair of Bill Hall's gloves he threw into the stands

Got a game used stick and hockey puck from John Vigilante who plays in the Nashville Predators minor league system for the Milwaukee Admirals. We talked b/c I had his rookie camp jersey from Nashville and one of his old Whalers practice jerseys from the OHL.

Best piece I ever got was on September 5th,2007. I was at the Braves-Phillies game, and oh what a game it was. During the game, I had caught 4 baseballs (3 used during game, 1 BP), and in the 9th inning, the Braves had 2 outs, and needed 3 runs to win the game, with Matt Diaz at the plate. If he got out, the Braves lost, but he ends up hitting a 3-run triple and the Braves came-back to win the game from Diaz' hit. Yunel Escobar was the 3rd person to score and was the game-winning run. After the Braves went crazy on the field and came into the dugout, I heard someone calling for Escobar's wristband, and I saw him start to take it off and he threw it up, as I did with my glove, and I caught the wristband. I found pics on getty of him wearing it during the game-winning run which is really cool too.

In this picture, you can not only see Escobar wearing the wristband I'm about to get, but you can also see me in the background:

Forgetting items I have purchased directly from players, the best item I ever received free from a player was Don Baylor's cracked Louisville Slugger bat used during batting practice in 1979 in Anaheim, his AL MVP year with the Angels.

            Minor Leauge GU

Luis Jimenez cracked bat "slid over dugout when I asked him"

Matt Padgett M9 GU bat "gave to me because I cought a line drive foul ball during BP"

M9 Maple bat with no name I forget who used it but I have it written down somewhere on the ticket stub but he used to play in the majors "Asked him after the game for it when he was walking by me"

way too much to list pretty much everything I have gotten has been directly from the player.
              2 Jason Giambi bats.
              1 Palmeriro bat
2 pairs of Huston Street Cleats
              pair of Jason isringhausen cleats
2 Andrew mccutchen bats one broken one not
geez the list goes on and on. along with hundreds of game used baseballs and dozens of batting gloves.

yeah you would have to ask my ex wife where she sold them (or threw them out) after she stole them from me in our divorce (and I mean literally stole them not getting half in a property settlement they disappeared along with close to 2/3 of my personal collection while going through the divorce)

I have A Cecil Fielder Yankees hat that he gave my dad right off his head after a game. He signed it under the bill. That is the only thing I have that was given to anyone I know by the player.

When I was in college, I was the sports editor for the paper and went to cover some Indians games. I remember the Royals were in town and David Howard gave me his bat he broke during batting practice and as I was walking over to the stands to give it to my then girlfriend to hold, George Brett hit a foul ball that almost hit me so I kept that, too. I also remember Bo Jackson was there and talked to him and George and a few other guys. I should have asked for more when I had the opportunity. But the Indians clubhouse guy gave me a line-up card from the Tigers that was when Sparky Anderson was there and got a few other bats. But the Howard was the only item handed to me by a player.
