    Rubber bat handles

There is a bat I am thinking about purchasing but it has a rubber handle? Do players use these or is this bat legit? Remember I am a little new to the game used area, so was curious what was the story behind this bat.

Are you referring to a rubber donut at the end of the knob or the actual handle is rubber (something i've never seen before). Brian McRae used these rubber donuts on the knob of his bats and those were legal. The same effect of balancing is seen on Sammy Sosa bats where wads of tape are used to form a ball-shaped knob.

Here's a photo of McRae with a bat with a rubber donut on the handle.

No, it is on EBAY and it is a double dipped bat with a Rubber Handle. Used by Aaron Boone, but just wondering if this was the real deal. Never seen the whole rubber handle on a game used bat.

          Here's the bat.

I've never seen a rubber grip like that before on a bat either. I've seen a tennis racket grip on a Harold Baines gamer i once owned which i thought was unique. My guess it was put on the bat by the player and not at the HB factory. BMH can confirm this.

          Interesting bat.

I thought I remembered Reggie using these grips or atleast something like them. He Used a red grip when he was with the Cardinals.

So were saying it is possible that this is the real deal? Maybe I am so used to the autograph world where I question everything. Thanks for the help!

I know for a fact that Jeff Conine uses the same type of grip that is on aluminum bats.

I saw several bats of his that looked like they had an entire roll of grip on them.

It looks like a pro model model Boone bat. However whether Boone used rubber grips ever on his bats would be the only issue.

It would make a nice bat to get autographed by Aaron and perhaps you can get his opinion on the rubber grip at that time.

I was jus about to say this exact same thing that MetsBats said.

Your asking the wrong question did players ever do it YES/NO MAYBE SO, but that's irrelevant.

The real question is did Boone ever do it.

I went through all his pitures on Getty with him having a bat in hand and it didn't seem like not a one of them had a rubber grip.
Not only did none of them not have a rubber grip, none of them were even taped and it didn't seem like he was a heavy pine tar or Mota stick user.
All of these things contribute to a player wanting a good gip on his bat which seems like Boone did not do.

So I would say least likely this bat was used by Boone. I am not saying it is impossible I am just saying unlikely.

AND AS KINGJAMMY WOULD SAY, WHY BUY SOMETHING UNLIKELY WHEN YOU HAVE SO MANY LIKELYS ON THE MARKET.

I recently sold a Josh Hamilton game used bat that had a rubber grip handle.

Have a Chris Widger BWP bat from his days with StL in 2003. It has a rubber grip that I doubt was factory issued.. None of my other BWP bats have this type grip.
