I have the opportunity to purchase this Bo Jackson 1985 Auburn Baseball jersey but I know nothing about his jersey's from Auburn. Could anyone who has some insight please let me know. I'm a little worried about the stitching from the inside collar stating "Jackson 85" going thru to the back of the jersey?? That didn't seem right to me, also I haven't been able to find Bo wearing this specific style jersey from his Auburn days, that doesn't say much since I haven't found many anyway. Thanks so much for any help

I know nothing about Bo era Auburn jerseys. However, no swatch (extra patch) with embroidered name sewn directly to the collar seems unlikely. Does the stitching of the letters show thru the back collar? It is unheard of to have player identification sewn in this way for any team, ever. My initial opinion is the name was sewn in the collar to fabricate a Bo gamer. This is my opinion and I welcome someone to prove me wrong.

Bo was declared ineligible for the 1985 baseball season by the SEC for a plane trip he took to Tampa Bay, supplied by the Bucs. I have the Auburn 85 year book and Bo is not listed as playing baseball.

I am not saying that Auburn did not wear a jersey like this but, the sleeveless jerseys I saw had the word "Auburn" across the front with the player number.

re: the stitching

aside from showing through to the back, the real issue with the stitching is that it completely prevents the jersey from being re-used. did auburn really have such a posh baseball program that they issued brand new jerseys to each player every season? pretty impressive considering how many MLB teams re-used jerseys during the 80s. it seems highly unlikely that a college baseball team would use brand new jerseys every season for every player simply so they could stitch the players name and year into the collar. as warren said, very strange to have it done without any "plate".

It also seems odd to me that the jersey wouldn't be a pullover instead of a button-up given the style of the late 70's through mid 80's was the pullover type.

For what its worth I myself have a Russell Athletic, Blue Jersey with the orange and white lettering (my preferred jersey style from Auburn) that I purchased directly from the club house manager about 10 years ago when I was getting recruited by the team. There is no name stitched into this jersey anywhere...nor do I recall seeing any jersey's with this name embroidering. However, I wasn't really interested in the white jersey style as it wasn't my favorite so I didn't pay it any mind. Auburn, being a D1 SEC school, normally has sponsorship deals with sporting goods companies for bats, cleats, uniforms, gloves...just about everything. So in theory if they were changing sponsors or jersey styles thats when they typically moved the old uniforms...also if they became unrepairable or simply too beat up.

HUGE Auburn Fan here... Auburn had a long standing deal with Russel Athletic until about 3 years ago. Russel's headquarters was in the next city over, and only about a 30min drive. Auburn wanted to help an Alabama company so they had a deal for next to nothing. Russel moved their headquarters to Atlanta, and Under Armour came in and offered Auburn a lot of money... so since Russel was no longer in Alabama, and a better offer was on the table, they switched sponsors.

Besides that, I dont remember seeing the AU logo in the eighties, on baseball jerseys. I believe they used mostly Auburn, spelled out in one way or another. I do remember seeing those jerseys around 2000.. when Gabe Gross was playing... I believe..

In the eighties the orange for auburn, was much brighter, now its more of a rust color.
