I think Crawford is underrated as a player. His BA has increased every year he has played. He's only 26 yrs old and already has 990 hits and 277 stolen bases. He seems to be fairly consistent, and he's from Houston.

Great Idea for a thread! As many of you know, I am a Biggio and Astros collector. Right now I have 22 Biggio Bats, 14 Bagwells. As of this morning, my bat inventory is at 1,269 bats. It is a logistic nightmare keeping inventory of where everything is.

I might be one of the luckiest guys around! My wife loves the collection. She gets a little annoyed at times when the transient stuff overflows into an adjacent room, but for the most part loves it. She always encourages new comers to the house to check it out.

Good luck with the expanding collection! BTW, I have been collecting bats since 1987, so I have a lot of time on most. The hard part for me is convincing myself I don't need three different Sid Bream or Glen Barker bats, just because each is a little different and maybe even just a different model number.

Total collection, 700+ (thanks, eGameUsed...I was starting to feel like a compulsive nut...which, in fact, I may still be, but at least now I know I have company! And I've only been collecting since 1998!)

Since we're into a "whose is bigger" thing :rolleyes: what about game-worn jerseys? I wonder if even Ed Vosberg has 9 of Ed's jerseys, including two beauties from the Puerto Rican Winter League.

The Manny and Ortiz Red Sox bats are from the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons. The Manny Indians bats are a 96 LVS and 98 Rawlings.

How many bats have you confronted a player with at the same time, at a signing? :D

I've gone to numerous signings where I had 6-8 bats for one player to sign - I know the guy who does the shows here pretty well, and if I have that many, he'll either give me part of a table off to the side, so I don't have to carry them all through a line, or he'll let me put them on the signing table before the player gets there, and be first - but my record for one player at one signing is 14.

Greg Colbrunn was signing at a card shop, and before he got there I got permission from the owner to line up all these bats behind the counter, so
Greg could sign them before he started signing everybody else's stuff. They represented every team he'd ever played on to that point, and even a few from the minor leagues. I also had a couple of his Atlanta jerseys, and some other things. Colby's a pretty humble guy, and seemed genuinely confused that somebody would have that many of his bats.

I have over 44 game used Jose Canseco bats. Eventhough I represented him for many years, I collected his bats before we met and started doing business.

But, the part of my personal collection that has taken the most time is my florida marlins game used bat collection. I have one game used bat from every marlins that has ever played since they started in 1993.!! Every year I manage to find another rookie that I did not have the year before. This is really challenging and difficult but extremely fun !! I currently have over 175 different game used Marlins bats....

I have 10 bats of Toby Hall's . Two of them are Home Run bats . Toby was/is an assh*le when I met him in 2006 , so I bought a few of his bats to put a hex on him :eek:.

Back in the mid ninties when the 86 Mets did a reunion show in NJ I wheeled around a laundry cart full of 25 gamers for almost all the players to sign. Only had one bat for each player except Gary Carter who inspected all 5 bats I presented him.

The only other time I presented multiple bats to a player was to Ed Hearn when he visited my home for a private signing and I asked him to sign 5 gamers too. As he was signing he asked me if I wanted anything inscribed and I said what ever comes to mind meaning 86 Mets, his number etc, and he jokely said "I'll sign this one that I hit a home run with it! At which point we both looked at each other and cracked up:D

earlywynn I understand what your saying and there was a thread started some time ago about members who they collected and why and I am sure that thread can answer your question for some of the members of who they collect.
Darryl Strawberry you can consider him a stiff I am a realist, yes he did coke, he was an alcholic, had domestic problems and tax evasion, off the field he wasn't the greatest.
But on the field he was a fear at the plate to this day critics say he had one of the sweetest swings in baseball cuz he would swing with grace with a high kick and produce some amazing home runs. At heart he really is a great guy having encountered him in many occasions he is great to people and to fans. Even the majority of his teamates have said through the years he was a great guy with the exception of a couple.
Jeter even said that Strawberry was his mentor and that Strawberry took him under his wings and helped him up from the minors. One of Strawberrys books was foreworded by Jeter. I remember when the Yankees found out he had cancer and had the #39 stitched in there caps, Jim Leyritz who as on a different team at the time wrote in silver marker on his cap #39 while he was playing.
Growing up as a kid watching Strawberry step up to the plate and being one of the most feared hitters through the 80's into the 90's was a beautiful thing. Even his comeback time with the Yankees he still produced amazingly for not being a full time player.

So hopefully in my case anyway you can see why I follow Strawberry.

Oh i am hooked joe thanks to you.But i am the only one in my family that has not touched the bat.Even my mom took some swings with it.And at christmas the bat was the star of the show as i was bringing people down to my yankees corner in the basement and showing it to them.And my nephew lucas who is a big twins fan was blown away about it.But anyway,yeah the thought that giambi used this bat and maybe even hit a home run with it makes me very happy just looking at it.I know you are proberly getting tired of me talking about it.But i will never be able to thank you enough for it.I know its just one bat but to me its much more than that.:)

That was really funny joe,i laughed out loud when i read this.Believe me i want to take your advice.Its not a thing of not wanting to take some swings with that bat,as i want to every time i walk by it.I just can not get myself to do it for some odd reason.I guess it might be the same as people wearing game used jerseys.I don't understand why people would do that.As i would want the last person to have worn that to be that player.But i guess that can only happen if the player gives you the item directly to you.I mean my whole family and friends and my sisters family at christmas have all taken swings with it.I am the only one that has'nt.Heck i have not even touched the handle of it,as i took it out of the tube by the barrel.I think how great it is to have a bat that giambi used.So it would be great to swing the bat.I will swing the bat.....maybe:)

I have 23 Brandon Allen bats, which I think is amazing considering he hasn't played for very long and has only limited major league time. Those factors have also meant that his bats are relatively cheap.

The Collin Cowgill bat was one that Allen used to hit an upperdeck homer at Chase Field.

Hah, some may think that. I bought my first Biggio bat from the Astros in 1991 when they used to have a bat waiting list program. I remember when my mom took me to the Astrodome that summer day. I was so happy to have saved my $75 for the bat. The lady called and said they had a Biggio and Luis Gonzlez bat for me. I stil have that bat and it is one of my favorites to this day. Since then, I have handled or reviewed over 100 of his bats.

The odd thing is that Biggio early (pre-1994/95) and late (2004-07) bats are the toughest to find. The story is that Craig started keeping much of his items in the 2002-2003 era for his family, with the game use ditems being shipped off to New Jersey routinely through the season.

It has been fun collecting his stuff. I believe Craig is one of the last players to be passionate about the game. I remember a game in 2003 or 2004 when the Astros were down 9-2 or so in the 7th inning. I recall him taking a HBP with 2 outs and running out a infield dribbler. Wish there were more like him.

Ok, lets try some baseball.

Whats the best way to store bats? Regarding pinetar etc. Have some on display, some in bat tubes.

Too bad I couldnt get the ball seam impressions clearer. The amount of power Albert has to generate to get that kind of seam transfer is unreal. I have multiple bats only because the second is beaten even more, love the tar even though he doesnt use that much and the price was difficult to turn down.
