Question about Rawlings/Adirondack Date Stamp

I've recently picked up a Mark Grace Rawlings/Adirondack bat. The label dates the bat from 87-89. I know from 80-88 date codes were single digits. 8=1988 I thought I read in 89 dates were changed to two digit codes. 89=1989 But the code on my bat is 09. Is this bat from 1989?

Hi Scott,

Your bat is from 1989. In 1990 the year code became '90'.

Not a lot of pine tar. But according to every picture I've seen, Grace didn't use a lot of pine tar early in his career.
