Manny being Manny, skips White House visit to....meditate?

    What a nitwit.....

anny Ramirez Was Meditating While Rest of Red Sox Visited White House

At this point, we should not be surprised by anything Manny Ramirez does or says. He is a great hitter, a flawed fielder and well, sort of quirky dude. I suppose it all wraps into his "Manny being Manny" charm. So when Manny skipped Boston's visit to the White House on Wednesday -- the visit in which George Bush made a joking knock on his dead grandmother -- there had to be some explanation why Manny decided not to go, right?

Well, yup: he says he was meditating:
It is his new passion for his down time, and he had some of that on Wednesday. So when asked if he needed a presidential remark to feel important, he said he did not.

"I was doing meditation in my house, so I feel more important," Ramirez said. "That's what I do now. In my time off, I read books and I meditate. That's what I do."
So there you have it folks, Manny Ramirez was not watching his fellow teammates being congratulated by George Bush when he didn't make the trip, he was achieving inner peace and maybe reading some books. And nothing about that really seems out of the ordinary.

I don't blame Manny at all...Bush never passes up an opportunity to say something stupid.

I lean to the right of the political spectrum, but I wouldn't darken the door step of the White House at this time. I know because of tradition, if the team is invited, they should go to and show respect to the office and not the man.

Jim, when you wrote, "What a nitwit," you were referring to George Bush, right?

Let's just hope that Manny's off-season workout and this new meditation practice turn into staggering numbers in a contract year!

I try to keep my comments in-line with the spirit of this forum but since this thread has shifted to politics, I just can't resist a chance to make a political statement so here goes:

Being a Republican, I can't waiit for a Democrat to get into the White House. Along with a Democratic Congress, the skies will open, choirs will sing and once again, America will be perfect again.

Of course the working public will have to work a little harder, pay more Federal taxes and perhaps a few terrorists attacks will once again reach our shores instead of Iraq but hey, perfection doesn't come cheap.

As for Manny meditating, it was more likely he was counting his money from his baseball salary, sports memorabilia sales and whatever financial interests he has - all of which have come from America. As the saying goes, "America been berry berry good to me".

          Who knew...Manny can read?

How sick and perverse has this country become when citizens (or quite possibly non citizens) side with a Manny type character over the Commander and Chief. It seems to me this once great republic doesn't have much longer left. My allegiance lies with the brave young men and women who still believe and sacrafice so much so that we can all buy/spend hundreds of dollars on sweaty clothes worn by men other than ourselves while accomplishing things we could not. Maybe our funds might be better off going to an organization such as T.A.P.S.

          God Bless America,
          GO NAVY!

I too support the brave young men and women who are sacrificing their lives but I do not support the Comm in Chief who created this war and is allowing these people to die just to put more $$$ in his and his cronies pockets. He's run this country into the ground and whoever takes over is going to have one helluva mess to clean up.

I for one could care less if Manny shows up to the White House or not. There should be a separation between sports and state so no more of our taxpayer money is wasted on congressional hearings and presidential photo ops with professional teams. This honor should be reserved only for our Olympic teams who are actually representing our country.

            Just my 2 sense...

FYI - all joking aside, Manny took and passed his citizenship test about 4 years ago meaning he probably knows more about this country than 95% of us on this forum.

What is this, an Oprah board? I think we should all be able to communicate and not sulk about it afterwards. Many have paid the ultimate price so we can all have and voice an opinion. Remember, this is America - not Iran or North Korea. And satindsox - I would be in the 5%

I believe I would fit into the 5% percent category.

As for the President starting this war, did someone forget the fact that the Congress, Senate, and UN all voted for the War? And, thankfully this Country has a President that will stick to what he said rather than fold under public opinion like so many politicians and citizens of the USA.

Since this is a sports forum, lets get back to Manny. We are all fortunate that we have people in the armed forces serving, fighting and dying everyday so "Manny can be Manny".

                      Jim

I hope I did not offend anyone - that WAS NOT my intention. Remember, we all have a right to express our opinions.

Well you are not my enemy. Chances are you are a family man, a beneficial member to your community, and a charitable person as I am sure most on this board are. Those who flew jet planes into the Twin Towers forcing innocent women and children to burn or jump to their deaths would most likely qualify as my enemy.

As for the Jets sucking...great job breaking that story Win or lose I still love the green and white just the same. Hopefully their recent free agent signings combined with the Pats losing a couple key pieces help close the gap a bit. Now if we can just see McFadden fall to the 6th spot. Then everybody will once again be seeking NY Jets game used items and I'll have a step up on most.

And yes, many have fought and/or died for all of our rights, many of which we all to often take for granted these days. I served with more than a few and am am related to a couple - all great, brave, and honorable men who I am thankful for every day. That has nothing to do with politics as I made no political statements...just statements of gratitude for being fotunate enough to live in a country where collecting sports memorabilia is actually something we concentrate on.
