I was bidding against you at $160, but had to stop. I think you got a great deal, what was your highest bid may i ask. Also i dont know if you asked the guy but he says on the knob there's a vintage fading 44 in sharpie, so its most likey one of his yankee bats.

      Hi

I think the bat is great and I paid around $250 for it . Which I thought was a steal for a vintage Jackson Yankees bat. Feel the value in the future will be more. Will probaly have Reggie sign it. Interesting that all the 1977 World Series photos i have seen Reggie is using this same style of bat. Possible photo match?

          Re: Reggie Jackson bat

This bat is very interesting to me. I had planned to bid and was the one who asked the length of the bat which stopped me from bidding. I too recently picked up a 34 inch, 33 oz, Adirondack Jax bat from the 1979 era. The length is the interesting issue. Naysayers will tell you that the H&B records of that time period do not show Jackson ordering any 34 inch bats except for possible a couple of promo bats. Unfortunately, I understand that Adirondack/Rawlings either doesn't have the information for orders back then or won't release them. My bat (shown below) doesn't have the 44 on the knob but it is a dark bat and he didn't always the number on the knob. The use characteristics are consistent with Jackson's use (ie. left handed hitter, cleat marks to the rear side of the barrel, light pine tar), but that doesn't mean it couldn't be from another left-handed hitter. The fact that your bat does have the number on the knob seems to suggest that Jackson did order 34 inch bats from Adirondack in the 1970s. Please post a picture when of the knob when you get the bat.

          Any other thoughts from anyone?

            Rob

I saw your posting and thought it was very interesting. I also read the 34" and checked the records. But two thoughts came to mind.

            1) What if it was measured wrong? The bat has been cracked and it maybe 34.5" straighten out? Or the person could of measured wrong. I have done this on several times. It gets tricky.

            2) If it is a 34" bat. it could still be ordered by Jackson. His H&B records show that he did order 34" bats..it not totally unthinkable he could of ordered 34" bats from Adirondack/Rawlings?

            Reasons i bought it

            1) It is a vintage 1977 to 1980 Adirondack/Rawlings with the Black ring.
Alot of pics i see of Reggie (1977 to 1980) swinging a bat he is swinging a Adirondack/Rawlings Bat.

            2) It had the correct marking 288RJ and the faded 44 and the correct logos decals on the bat.

            3) It looks like it has taken a hammering. (Reggie Style)

            4) I don't know if Adirondack/Rawlings did many Pro Stock models but it just doesn't have that look to it. I felt it was a legit gamer.

When i get the bat i will post more pics.

            Thanks
            Jason

              Re: Reggie Jackson bat

              Hey Jason,

I agree with you. I am more inclined to think that Jackson did order these bats. The 34" bats from the H&B records indicate that the 34 inch bats he ordered were for promo purposes during this time frame (mine is the same era as yours). I believe the records show that he didn't actually order 34 inch bats for use until he was with the Angels. That being said, it doesn't mean he wasn't ordering them from Adirondack/Rawlings. It also doesn't seem to make a ton of sense that he ordered these for use by others. I have seen Jax models from Adirondack/Rawlings that have a different players name imprinted on the barrel.

I think the use characteristics on my bat are consistent with Jackson and yours clears the way for his use of 34 inch Adirondack bats during the Yankee era.

              Take care,
              Rob L

                    Rob

The bat has arrived. Man it is hammered. I measured it and it is 34.5 inches. I think people sometimes forget to measure the top of the bat. Easiest way is to put something on top of the bat to measure correctly.
Hey i will take photos and post
