does the REDS in 1969 worn names on back ?
this flannel showed other name on the back "CHURCH", but the #16 was worn by stewart .... the 100 years patch is removed, i assumed and its really sad to see this shirt going waste.....

Stewart in the lining, Church on back...

Wonder if it is an original jersey that someone customized to wear out in the public....

To me, the NOB font looks out of place for a 1969 jersey... If I recall correctly, names back then were done in a very basic, straighter font...

Baseball Almanac online shows no Church on the 1969 roster...

After a check with the seller of this item, the NOB (Church) is said to be screened on making restoration of the correct lettering/name for this jersey impractical.

Hey guys...just wanted to throw my two cents in here. This jersey was very likely used by Jimmy Stewart during the 1969 season. It was then probably re-used, as many Reds jerseys were recycled, by Bubba Church(former Reds player from the 1950s) at a Reds reunion/Old-Timers game. Everything on the jersey is correct with the exception of the CHURCH on back. The names were placed on the backs of Reds jersey's in 1969 in red but it would be semi-arched. Likely the STEWART was removed & the generic CHURCH lettering was added. The Anniv. patch was removed as well, another common occurrence. Thanks, Adam

This Jersey is a bit strange I don't know if it was worn by Stewart at all

This Jersey is a bit strange because if you look at the numbers that are on the Jersey they are the same mateirial as the name plate and look to be in the same condition as the name which seems to be fairly new. Which would lead me to believe that it was restored but then leads to another question why would you restore the number and change the name.
Unless as someone mentioned here someone restored an old jersey but customized it for themselves to wear.

I am not saying it couldnt have been game worn and then turned into an old timers jersey but how likely is that??? I have never heard of that done before for old timers games taking left over game used jerseys and wearing them. Has anyone else heard of teams doing that?
