      Are you referring to the knob end?

        no. look at the barrel label. it has the R after slugger. at best one can say it is from 73-75, but the R was not used in that period. this is one of those replica bats that was made before the line was added under the 125.

        someone else please chime in on this one to here your thoughts.

          I'm going to guess that the ball marks come from a Rawlings NL baseball (see the "CENTER" ball mark) and this bat is from the 72-75 era. However Rawlings didn't become the official supplier of MLB baseballs till 1976 and all 1976 bats had the Liberty Bell stamps.

          Though the timings don't match up, it not entirely impossible that Mota used a bat made for him from the 72-75 era during the 1976 season.

            Good eye! I did not notice that registered trademark. The registered trademark didn't appear until the 86-89 era.

              Here's a link to a Johnny Mize "Show" bat which is a replica of an earlier era HB pro model of Mize's. It too has a model number on the knob and a registered trademark on after the Louisville Slugger on the barrel.

                Re: mota bat?

                Hi,
                I think your Mota bat falls under some of the the same specs as the Johnny Mize, Marty Marion and this Jules Schoendienst bat that I listed on eBay (350036890898). I thought I might have some emails on the Schoendienst, and did. I was in error in the original listing. Am still not sure on the Schoendienst description. I bought it years ago as a "Red Schoendienst" had him autograph it, and paid accordingly. Lesson learned!!!!!!!!!! Had I checked this out, could have saved a few hundred... Now I have a curious bat autographed by his brother. If there was ever a thread for screw ups, this one would rank right up there.

                A great guide in identifying bats is:

                and if you still have a question, email Jeff and I am sure he can help you.
                There is no such thing as a dumb question.

                  woodbat;
                  it's not mine. it was listed on ebay. i didn't hear back from the seller but he pulled the auction. appearently he was wrong in his assumption that it was a gamer.
