This is why I hate ebay!

Oh man! I just lost an auction even though my bid was higher than the winning bid!

My snipe fired just fine, but the "minimum bid" was like a dollar more than my snipe, so it didnt count.

    DAMN!!!!!!!!

Vintage dont start kicking yourself just yet as I don't think you have missed out on what you think you did.

I do not believe they were Game Used. Maybe Game Issued but not Game Used.

        My reasons for belief:
They look new, they do not show any wear on the legs or knees. Catchers especially Posada put heavy wear on the knees of there pants or in that area.
Also Posada is very supersticious and as far as I know always write on the inside waistband under his name and the numbers his wifes and kids names. I have 2 pairs of his game used pants that have this on them.
Also on both pants of mine it shows definite wear of discoloration and worn from the friction of movement and sweat.
If you look at his pants on the inside they look pristine white even if you look at the mesh pocket lining.

Now I am not saying it is impossible that these weren't game used just unlikely.!!!

suave - thanks for the reply. You raise some points that I also thought about.

I'm familiar with the Posada habit of writing the names and even though these pants didnt have that, I was ok with that. I figured these pants could have been pressed (no pun intended ) into service between innings if his other pants were ripped. The photos were distant and its possble to not be able to see wear/abrasions from shin guards/pads. The seller said that the pants showed "decent wear, but no rips". With the Steiner COA saying that they were game used, I felt fairly comfortable that they were the real deal. They had no bids for a week and I felt that at the low price, they were worth taking a shot at as pants with minimal wear. I would prefer pants that were destroyed but ya take what ya get. The seller offered them to me at $195 but I wanted to take my chances in the auction.

All in all, I'm ok with not getting them now. I'd rather wait for a destroyed uniform to show up. I'm just pissed about how ebay works with the minimum bid nonsense.

Vintage I mean anything is possible and maybe the pants in hand instead of on a distant photo may show some wear.

But even still I would rather have a pair that shows Posadas signature use no pun intended.

I have seen from time to time a pair of Posada pants float around in auctions whether it be a Auction house or ebay. You will find a pair.

So why not wait for a better pair. It would be worth the wait.

Plus Posada has 4 more seasons lol lol

Agreed. I'd like to put together a complete uni of his. I just felt that the pants were at a decent price and it was worth a shot.

Suave/Jim - I also question this seller's representation of a 2003 Alfonso Soriano bat which ends tonight.

The pine tar pattern on his bat is nowhere near any Soriano I have ever seen and there is no handle criss-cross tape.

Anyway, that is my thoughts on his Soriano listing.

Re: This is why I hate ebay!

Allstar im glad you brought this bat up and I believe someone else mentioned it on a thread before I actually did some homework on this bat.

And here is my conclusions as much as I agree with you AllStar that it does not show Sorianos normal characteristics, from checking pics on Getty during that same time period that this bat is stated to be from according to pics on Getty there is a possibility that Soriano didn't tape all his bats or use heavy pine tar.

On Getty photos during the time period of 2003 to 2004 it seems like theres quite a few times Soriano did not Tape his bats and used less pinetar.
maybe Soriano was experimenting because I noticed more visible taped handles and pine tar in pics going into 2005

not to mention the bat is cracked, if the bat cracked early then that would explain that there wasn't enough time to build up pine tar.

I am not saying this means this bat is legit but is quite possible.

Andrew - the pine tar application in these pics seems fairly light compared to what Sori usually uses.

                      Here was my exact quote:
The pine tar pattern on his bat is nowhere near any Soriano I have ever seen and there is no handle criss-cross tape.
I questioned pine tar patterns and made no mention of how heavy the tar was.

It isn't necessarily the amount of pine tar but the placement. All 3 of your photos show light pine tar but it is all centered directly on the SAM label.

There is a big difference between those bats and the one for sale.

Also keep in mind that the white tape is tough to see as his hands would cover most of it plus white tape against a blonde bat is tough to see in a small low res picture.
