Does anyone know if Matty Alou ever used a V1 model LS?

Hi--

A review of Matty's H & B shipping records shows that throughout his career, Matty most often used model U1 bats, beginning in April, 1965 and continuing through 1974. Although he used several other models as well, the U1 accounted for more than 75 percent of his orders. Lengths ranged from 34 1/2 to 36 inches and weights generally fell between 31 to a whopping 38 ounces, with most in the 36 to 38 ounce range.

There is no documentation of Alou's use of a Model V1 H & B bat. During his career, as you know, orders were recorded by hand, and a U could be mistaken for a V, but most likely the U on the knob was either misread as a V, or possibly mis-stamped as a V instead of a U.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info. There's a big ol' V1 there on a bat that looks like it ought to be a U1, so I think you may be right about the mistaken stamp.

What does the bat look like? The easiest way to tell is the V1 has a knob, the U1 does not.

The bat has no knob. I'm not sure what a V1 is supposed to look like but I think the bat looks like other U1's that I have seen. By the way, whose bats were the prototypes for these bats?

The U1 was for Bernie Uhalt.
The V1 was for Al Van Camp
