How much of your government check are you targetting for collecting? And how are you explaining at home that another soiled baseball jersey is good for the economy?

Real simple one here. I intend to spend a few hundred dollars out of that check on me (my wife will spend a few hundred out of it on herself too). Or should I say we have already spent it, and are waiting on the credit card bill for items bought and the check to pay it off!! lol

Our rationale is the fact that we work very hard throughout the year with evry little reward for our efforts. When we see things we like, we often don't do anything about them because we don't have the money or have other priorities. Either that or we buy that item at the expense of needing to sell something else to offset it.

Now, we actually have the means to do it, as long as we don't overextend ourselves. That said, we're putting more of that check to bills than anything else!!!

I am buying a tractor for my yard. Not that I am that lazy, but my little guy likes to watch daddy cut the grass...and it is another chance to bond with my son.

The other part of the check goes toward our vacation in July.

I am not really planning on having much left over for collecting purposes.:(

I have a new car, but also still have a 1999 Chevy Malibu that has been an excellent workhorse since it was new. $350 of the stimulus check was well-spent for new tires, an oil change and brake flush.

The rest of the check will just kind of drift away...... Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Have already been told that out of the $1800 expected, I won't see a dime for collecting purposes. Wife has caught me overspending here and there so relying on other avenues for my purchases...

We're getting about 2400.00 in this Friday (direct deposit) and I asked my wife if I could have some for gamer stuff. She said,"How much?" I said,"How about 400.00?" She said, "OK," real quick. That's got me wondering if I should have asked for more. Oh well. I'm happy with it.

It's all going right into the bank for now.

Come December, I'll be taking two little Princesses on their first and only (I hope!) trip to Disney World. From what everyone tells me, good ol' "Uncle Walt" is going to want me to bring lots and lots of cash.

Greg,

How did you find out the exact date you are getting the direct deposit? I was told a general timeframe (which week to expect the money) but also heard that they are "running ahead of schedule." Needless to say I don't have the money nor a clue.

Thanks
Nick

3 words: bags of rice.

i know a gravytrain when i see one.
laugh now but when the rice riots hit the US and i'm sitting on 6 tons of basmati, i'm going to look smarter than bushing at a flea market.

On the internet you can look it up. If you got it direct deposited you'll get it much faster. It's done by social security #.

Otismalibu,

Thanks. That was the original article I saw. Sadly, based on my ss#, I am the last lot.

After this came out, I did read that the IRS was running ahead of schedule and that the deposits would occur sooner. That was the last I heard.

I suppose that the worst case scenario now is I need to wait until 5/16. There is I guess a glimmer of hope that it could be sooner.

All,

I just found this article:

http://www.kfvs12.com/global/story.asp?s=8228550

It states that the checks are being mailed sooner than the published dates from the IRS; the direct derosits are 4 days ahead of schedule.

Original dates were: May 2, May 9, May 16
New dates are: April 28, May 5, May 12.

I guess we have our answer...

zero of that check is going towards collecting - 100% is going toward my student loans

I thought the same thing until I realized that $1500 will not even come close to denting my loans - what's another 6 months on 30 years?

It won't put a significant dent in mine either, but 30 years of interest on $1500 compounded will be a decent chunk of change after 30 years (and that much less that I'll pay in the end)
