Hello Suave,
It probably doesn't get much better than this for Strawberry bats.

David,
I've gotten all my nickles together. Will you accept U.S. Postal money order for the transaction?
Robert

GUYS WOW THANK YOU FOR POINTING THIS OUT!!!

WHEN I SAW THIS I STARTED DROOLING LOL LO

BUT UNFORTUNATELY AFTER LOOKING OVER THE PICTURES THERE ARE TOO MANY RED FLAGS FOR ME.

The Handle is taped - Strawberry to the best of my knowledge never and after reviewing many photos from the 80's never saw Strawberry tape a handle.

The 18 on the knob is questionable too its a bit off from Strawberry hand writing.

I AM GONNA DO SOME MORE HOMEWORK BEFORE I CONSIDER MAKING A PURCHASE!!

lets not forget they just had the game used strawberry jersey for sale lol lol

Suave,

I do have recall seeing some photo with Straw using a Rawlings Adirondack with criss cross tape though i completely agree it's not the norm. I'll see if I can dig it out as I believe it was in a year book.

The letter/COA attached to the bat is very strange and may be considered and eye sore to some.

HB in the old days used to display real gamers in stores and used to attach documentation like that to those bats and this Straw reminded me of this practice.

Suave1477,
What did you notice that was off/different about the Strawberry jersey. I've purchased from b-e before and would like to compare notes either on or off the forum with you.

Swoboda all you have to do is do a quick search there was recently a big thread on the Strawberry Jersey and I believe other Jerseys that they sold that was questionable.

I believe it would be in the Auction category.

Suave,

The 86 Mets commerative prints that were given out at the 86 Mets National Pastime Reunion shows in the ninties shows Strawberry using a Rawlings with the handle taped.

I looked all over for this photo (yearbooks, cards) as I distinctly remember see this taped bat and it was hanging on my wall all this time!

Enjoy!

HOLY MOLY DAVID!!!!

WOW THATS A FIRST EVER I HAVE SEEN NEXT TO THIS POSSIBLE PIC I FOUND. THESE WOULD HAVE TO BE POSSIBLY ONLY 2 EVER BATS HE EVER TAPED THERE HANDLES

HERE IS THE ONLY PICTURE I CAN FIND ON GETTY WITH A POSSIBLE TAPING OF THE HANDLE BUT ITS HARD TO MAKE OUT IF ITS TAPE OR HEAVY PINE TAR

Suave.

I agree you cannot really tell on the photo you posted which was from 87 as evidenced by the scripted New York on the road uni, whether its tar or tape. Could go either way.

However I think you now have definitive proof that he did at least use one bat with the same criss cross tape handle as the B&E home run bat. It's definitely a rare bird.

If one can take the Straw letter off the barrel of the HR bat you would be able to see any hit marks which may match up to the one on the bat in the poster.

The B&E bat is taped up to a level much closer to the blue ring where as the print bat is not, therefore Straw definitely had at least two bats with taped handles.

Needless to say the print bat is not the B&E bat.

DAVID NO NEED!!

Look at the tape on the hands that doesnt match up or at least it seems it doesnt match up

The one on ebay looks like the tape goes almost all the way up to the blue ring. As the one on the poster does not. Actually the one on the poster looks clsoer to the one from the Gettys picture.

I think your photo's bat is taped too. Note the white spots.

What I will say is this the tape job on the ebay bat and from the poster do look the same. Maybe it was something Strawberry tried out for a few games sometime in 87 and then decided not to continue.

Who knows???

Next time I see him I am going to ask him about this.

Nothing like photographic evidence being confirmed by the player !

Thanks Suave.

Next time you see him ask him why his 86 WS bat I have is signed to Marie?
