I've always wondered how retail manufacturer tags differ from their pro counterparts. Apparently, they don't differ very much if at all. The only differences I can see are that the retail tags are sewn on differently. (At least with Rawlings jerseys. Russell jerseys are another story. Manufacturer tagging seems to be identical on both Russell pro and retail jerseys). Rawlings retail tags seem to have been sewn on via their left/right sides only as opposed to pro tags which were sewn on by all four sides. I suppose if I were trying to ascertain if a certain jersey had had it's manufacturer tag doctored, I'd look specifically at the left and right sides to see if I could see any re-stitching or double-stitching. Rawlings retail jerseys seem to also have been doublestitched on their left and right sides, thereby forming a sort of inverted gutter up and down each side. Pro tags seem to be void of this left/right inverted gutter.
I also came across 80's/90's retail SandKnit and Wilson jerseys (not pictured).
