    Help identify these bat marks??

I recently picked up a 1991 Travis Fryman gamer off eBay for a great price. The bat is a Tigers and I really wanted an Indians bat, but the price was too good. Anyways, the bat has his number and 3 tally marks on both the knob and the barrel end. Does anyone have a guess as to what the tally marks represent? Here are what I have come up with so far:

    1) Number of HR's hit with this bat
    2) Numbered bat in rack
    3) Number of children he has
    4) ?

What does it mean? I have seen other bats with this as well, but maybe somebody has spoken to the players to get better insight. Thanks.

I remember reading an article in SCD (Tim Lee Equipment Manager) about these markings on Tiger bats. From what I remember they have to do with either the length or most likely the weight of the bat (ie III being 33 ounces).

I'll try to dig up the article but I'm sure there are folks on the forum who will have the answer right away.

it is the weight.....that would be 33 ounces. The tigers equip mgr, Jim S., came up w/ this years ago. if those 3 marks had a slash thru them, it would be 33.5 ounces..........
