Tim Teufel Game Used 1986 World Series Bat (ebay # 170241730553)

I have quite a few concerns with this bat and have just finished emailing the seller. I'll let you know how he responds.

In brief, this is an ebay auction for a bat used by Tim Teufel in game 7 of the 1986 World Series. In less than 24 hours, the value of the bat has been bid up to about triple the value of a regular Tim Teufel gamer. Unfortunately, that is all this bat appears to be.

1. The Rawlings model bat in the photo did not debut until 1987. Does not seem possible that was used in 1986.

2. The Mets used orange ring bats in the 1986 post-season, not blue.

3. The bat should have the words "World Series" stamped.

4. There is a "COA" pictured with the bat that certifies none of the above. It simply certifies an autograph (which I don't even see on the bat at all).

At least 2 people out there seem to have no idea as to what they're bidding on...

Nick, I got excited when I saw this post. :p

The large Rawlings blue ring did come out at the end of the 86 season. I have a Mookie Wilson and 2 Ed Hearn bats with the blue ring large 1987 Rawlings labeling and stamped "6" for 1986. You are correct that real WS bats have orange rings, "1986 World Series" stamped under the player name, and player initials and "1986" stamped into the knob along with the model number.

This bat may have been used by Tuefel in the WS. I emailed the seller to ask what color ball marks if any are on this bat. If the answer is red and there are discernable marks (like lettering from the 86 WS ball) then it most likely could have been used in the series.

I 'm going to go thru the 1986 WS DVD to see what type of bat Tuefel used and see if it matches this bat.

I just viewed the Game 7 dvd. Teufel used a Worth bat for all 3 plate appearances. This bat was definitely not used in Game 7 of the 1986 WS.

The only other games Teufel appeared in were game 1 (remember the ground ball that went between his legs which drove in the only run of the game ) and game 5.

I'm going to check out those games too.

Teufel used a Worth bat (probably the same bat) in game 1 and game 5 also. There's no way that bat on ebay was used in a World Series game in 1986.:mad:

I just reported this item to Ebay. Perhaps you should do the same. The more folks complaining may force Ebay to cancel it.

Actually the bidder who retracted is "not a registered user" and is the same bidder(31 feedbacks) who bid up the item.

This listing totally reeks.

Considering I was the first to write to him and I still haven't gotten a reply, I would tend to think that nobody is going to be receiving one anytime soon...

Someone needs to watch the auction and when the bidder wins it post a link to this discussion to the winner....

The auction ended with the bat at 177. I contacted the winning bidder to inform him/her of the discussion we had (with link) and that this bat was not used in the 86 WS.

I contacted the buyer and told him to check out the forum and the problems with the bat..If he responds I will let you guys know...

The seller never responded either..

Never got a response from the buyer either. Ebay sent me a thanks for notifiying us after auction ended. Not hopefully anything will come out of that either.

Like in the 1986 World Series, the Bad Guys won on this auction or so it seems at this moment.

This Teufel bat is back on ebay but this time as a regular game used bat which is exactly what it is.
