Grey Flannel has up for auction a 1988-1989 Joe Dumars games used home jersey. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Pistons having red font for the last names on the back of the jerseys? I am a Pistons fan and have thought that for the white home jerseys in the bad boy era, the last names were in blue font (I've always liked the way they look). I was trying to find some photos of the red font like on the jersey but was not lucky in doing so. Also does anyone know anything about Dumars sizing? This jersey is a 46, I would think in 1988 Dumars would be a 40, 42, 44 but have no idea. If anyone has any insight please let me know.
thanks,
Michael

Michael-

Great question!

During my years in this hobby, I've sold a few Pistons home jerseys from the late 1980's. Unlike the jersey in question, the names on back were in blue screened lettering, not red. Below, please find a Getty photo from 1989 that clearly demonstrates the style/color of lettering as found on my jerseys:

A photo from the 1989 season with a red name on back could not be located.

On an earlier post last week, Rudy noted another Pistons jersey that Grey Flannel was offering as game worn was previously sold as game issued:

After Rudy's post, the jersey was removed from the auction.

An email was forwarded to Grey Flannel regarding the Dumars, and I'm sure there must be a reasonable explanation for these Discrepancies simply based on the fact that Grey Flannel indicates they are the official authenticator of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

I look forward to any insight Grey Flannel or any Game Used Universe reader may have on this issue.

I think this photo is from the previous season, but I don't recall any color or font changes for the Pistons the following season.

If these auction houses spent the 5 minutes searching pictures that we collectors do, the hobby as a whole would be alot better off.

Does Grey Flannel actually do any research when someone offers up a jersey for auction? I mean other than seeing what comparable items have sold for.

Seriously, does anyone know what the step by step process is for GFC from the time the owner indicates he/she would like to sell it to the time it ends up in their auctions?

As much as I love reading Wikipedia entries that have been copied and pasted into auction descriptions...

What's really sad and unnecessary, is that Grey Flannel Collectibles are the "Official Authenticators" for the Basketball Hall of Fame.

If their auctions, and the items they certify as authentic, are any indication of their expertise, then the Basketball Hall of Fame must have a lot of questionable items, if not downright fraudulent.

Just curious, which items in the Hall of Fame are "questionable items, if not downright fraudulent"?

Not saying this item is fradulent or even examined by GFC, but 'tis questionable:
