Hi..

I've been trying to find some pics of a style match for this jersey...

every picture that I can find does not have the letter "I" in Indiana, but rather a sillouette of the state of Indiana for the letter I..

from searching the the internet, I can't seem to find any pictures to match this thing...

any help would be greatly appreciated...it appears to be a nice piece, but nothings a sure thing anymore

here are some links

I looked on ISU's athletic website and they only had these crappy b&w photos. The photo on the cover of the Sporting News is the only thing I could find in a white jersey from the year in question (1978) and that jersey looks nothing like the GFC jersey. Hopefully others can find some better pics or provide more detailed info. Good luck!

The shorts have me more baffled than the jersey. Bird in the pros wore mostly a size 36 waist-sometimes a 34. Those are size 40! And I can't really tell if the 33 marked on the shorts has been written over another # or if it just bled a lot-looks pretty new-not vintage or faded. Just my 2 cents.

Greg, I have only owned a few collegiate items, but based on the era I have had many, many NBA game used items with numbers crossed out and new numbers written in. They just recycled items all the time.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that 33bird is familiar with the fact that items get recycled.

His points were that the shorts seem too big and the #33 looks like it was written on the tag last week.

Oh, I thought he was making a general statement. I have no clue about the size. I know a few handwriting/ink dating experts. They should be hired to look at these then.

Maybe GF will guarantee 3rd party authentication by ink dating experts at the buyer's expense.

Wow, that wording sounds like something from my auctions. I do not know if Grey Flannel makes such offers, if you were not blacklisted by them for whatever reason you brought up you could ask them if they will guarantee such. :) (See, normal smiley fact since you know what all 40,000 faces mean)

Yea, I realize that shorts would probably be reused in college, that isn't the problem. The big size-40-is. I've had 3 game used pair of shorts of Birdie (Celtic shorts) all size 36 waist. I've seen a couple 34's. The other problem is, is that if the shorts are being reused year after year, then you would assume the writing would be faded-at least kindof faded. That pair looks recently marked. Those shorts are almost 30 years old! Just my 2 cents since I do collect a lot of Bird game used stuff. I also emailed another Bird expert (collector) and he verified that Birds shorts size were generally size 36. As for the jersey, I haven't had the time to research it.

I would hate to be the person spending $8,000+ on these items that may be fake.

I wonder if Grey Flannel references their own past auctions?

Man, I would love to have the 1989-90 Larry Bird jersey/shorts that sold two years ago. If anybody knows who has it, let me know. I never said their Indiana State stuff was fake. But, I would definately research it A LOT before spending 10K+, if I was gonna bid on them.

I actually picked this one up...it's pretty nice...i shows nice even wear...I've found what I believe to be a photo match, but have not invested a lot of time into it yet with videos...I'll get around to it someday

I was a huge Magic, Bird, and Jordan fan growing up....it was the one of the best Bird's I had seen for in a while, and I'm pretty happy with it..still looking for Magic

I looked at the 33 written in the Celtics Bird trunks that I have, and it's defintely washed out/faded out a bit...but when you look at the pictures from the auction 2 years ago when I got it, it appears to be much darker in the picture than in person...I wonder if this maybe the case with the Indiana trunks in the current auction as well?....the writing in the Indiana trunks does seem pretty dark though...

I think I read somewhere here before that equipment managers use a washable laundrey marker, and not a Sharpie when writing on uniforms...is this true?

And if so, can anyone tell the difference by looking at pictures whether a Sharpie or laundrey marker was used?...
