What to do with original photo of Babe Ruth?

Greetings collectors. I turn to you for advice. I collect GU jerseys but know nothing about photographs. About 20 years ago I was working in a retirement home and got to know an older lady and when she learned of my love of baseball she went to her room and came back with a photo of Babe Ruth. The picture is of the Babe autographing a ball during spring training. He's in uniform and wearing a great Yankee jacket. The lady told me this was the original photo, she'd never had another made, and she'd taken it out of her scrapbook and wanted me to have it. I love the Babe, and would like people other than me and my kids to see it, but my questions are: Is it worth anything? If I wanted to let people see it to share the love of the Babe, what's the best way to go about doing that?

you could scan it for the forum and then put it in a frame. what a wonderful item, you get to remember a sweet woman and have a great conversation piece. ive got a question is a photo from the original negative still an "original" photo? i have some photos of ruth and gehrig from original negatives i bought about 30 years ago. are they considered original?

Original photos of Ruth are not rare, but they can go for between $100-500 on ebay. The best way to showcase is to scan it and post it right here in this forum.

Here's one of mine...this is Ruth with his agent Christy Walsh to his right and Herb Pennock to his left.

This one has Ruth and his wife giving an award of some sort to a child

Yes it is considered an origianl photo if it comes from the actual negative and not a duplicate of another photo but it does not hold any actual value bcuz the photo itself is not old, but the negatives would have value bcuz they are the very first original and are old.

As far as to answer the other members question you can have the photo scanned either at your own home or go to your local pharmacy they have scanning machines now, where they can duplicate a photo or go to a professional photo place and have them scan it and duplicate it. As far as the photo it self does it have any value? Yes and No - bcuz it is not certified by major league baseball NO - but to a photo collector or babe ruth collector or even a yankee collector YES, so it depends who your looking to sell it too!!

slidekellyslide the one of babe and herb pennock thats a good one, thats a funny angle for a pic to be taken though it must have been by a child or the photographer was just trying to catch a weird angle!!!

Here is one of the best resources I have found regarding vintage photos.

The online info alone is enough for most of us. I purchased the baseball photo guide. It is very usefull when evaluating old pics. It doesn't help much with value, but helps spot repros if the online info isn't enough.

Ruth and Gehrig photos are very hot right now. I've collected them for a few years and decided to put a couple of extras on ebay. The prices were amazing! Some of the photos that I've bought in the last 6 months in the $40-$100 range sold for $300-$400. If your not attached to it, now is the time to sell! I kept my favorites and decided to sell all the rest.

If a signed Ruth baseball is worth thousands, how much money is in this photo?
