came across this on the bay....so is this just a retail jersey? From what I could find on getty, the jerseys had their names on the back, and in the case of 85 had O. Smith

any ideas what this is then?

I'm guessing it's a minor league shirt. Cardinals jerseys have had names on the back since 1962. As a result, the numbers on the back are set lower than they would be on jerseys with no NOB. If you see a number set so high that there's not ample room for a NOB (like this jersey), it's probably a minor league jersey.

I can't determine with certainty from the photos, but it looks like the logo might be an iron on, not embroidered.

As a Dodger fan, I hate watching it but I watched the video of Ozzie Smith's home run in the 1985 NLCS where he was wearing his home jersey with "O. SMITH" on the back. <sigh> probably yet another fraud. I'm so thankful I founded this site before venturing off blindly into the GU world.
