For $3250, I'll at least put the proper patches on your fake Ripken "gamer"

I swapped emails with this items seller this morning, and he confirmed that this jersey has no AL 100 or Ripken retirement patch, a Velcro closure, and a 6200 tag...ALL OF WHICH ARE INCORRECT FOR A 2001 RIPKEN GAMER!
But, hey, Brian Collard and Lou Lampson! are OK with it!
    (Stupid effin buyers!)

I believe this style was worn without the 100th Anniversary patch on the sleeve in 2001. I also don't think Ripken wore a retirement patch on his black alternate jersey when the rest of team wore them. The size is correct, the velcro closure is incorrect, and the 6200 is also a problem on Ripken shirts. There seems to be a new 2001 Ripken in every Bricol auction.

My error - he did wear the black alt jersey with the retirement patch. Sorry!

As an aside, check the September 21, 2001 game photos on Getty - Yankees vs. O's. Black alternate jerseys with the flag patch, no retirement patch, and no 100th AL patch. Still doesn't help this jersey, but just thought it was interesting.

          Rob/Mark-
Correect me if I'm wrong, however, didn't Lou Lampson write the LOA for this Ripken and also the Ripken green St. Patrick's, a jersey that was never used by the O's? Glaring errors on both, yet he still wrote his LOA.

          Shameful!

The Orioles DID wear the AL 100 patch on the alternate jerseys. Unlike some other teams, which have been inconsistent in applying league patches to alternate jerseys, the O's have placed the All-Star Game (93)125th anniversary (94) Jackie Robinson (97) and AL 100 patches on ALL jerseys.
That you can't see it in that one picture doesn't mean it's not there...

With all due respect, I'm confident there was at least a portion of the season in 2001 in which the O's DID NOT wear the 100th AL patch on the sleeve of their black alternate jerseys. Here is yet another game photo from the same Yankees/O's series in September 2001 that clearly illustrates NO PATCH on the right sleeve of Brady Anderson's jersey. Obviously the left sleeve bears the bird mascot logo. Is the patch sewn on the inside of his jersey, under his arm, or is this just a mirage?

                Rob:
I apologize. You are correct, and I am wrong. The Ripken retirement patch was on the home and alternate jerseys for Ripken's weekend. The AL100 patch was present on the home jerseys before the weekend and road jerseys throughout the season.
Now, what seasoning goes best with crow? I'm about to sit down to a rather large portion.

Mistake or not, you're leaps and bounds ahead of Lampson on this one!

The first Lampson! reference comes from my original correspondence with the seller. The second one comes from my being wrong about one of the three flaws on this jersey. I'm not writing LOAs for anything, but if I'm out here running my yap without first confirming what I believe to be true, then I'm no better than he is...worse, in fact, 'cause I'm not getting paid!

All the Ripken gamers I have seen have 2" extra length alteration on them. I have heard Ripken himself say he ordered his jerseys with 2" extra length.

                          Jason-
Did you happen to ask Ripken what year he began this practice?

I have his 1993 home jersey that he personally donated to the Kirby Puckett pool tourney. It shows a ton of use, is autographed and is a size 48, no extra length. My 1997 is a size 48, 2" extra length.

                          Just curious.

                            Jason:
For Russell jerseys, extra length tags should be present. For Majestic, however, the first evidence I've seen (on common Orioles gamers) of alteration tagging is on 2004 jerseys. I don't recall seeing any from 2000 to 2003.
