Mine was a Lou Brock autographed, game-used bat from 1974 (it's the bat on the right). I won it in a phone auction back in 1994. I still have it, but I'd trade it in a second if I could find a 1964-era Brock bat.

Re: tell us about your first ever game used piece

My first game used piece was a George Brett gamer. It got in September of 1981 when the Royals were in town playing the A's. Larry Gura was in the runway between the dugout and clubhouse watching the game and I asked him if I could possibly have a cracked bat. He said sure and went over to where the batboy kept the broken ones. When he walked over to the bats I asked if I could have the Brett since I knew he had cracked one. He looked around for it and gave it to me during the game. As a 12 year old kid it was a moment I'll always remember. Unfortunately I sold it awhile back and have regretted it ever since. Thought I had kept pics of it but my wife deleted them.

During the Spring Training of 1978, Glenn Borgmann, catcher of the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox gave me this bat. Obviously I still have it.

Greg Olsen (the catcher) game used bat. Picked it up at a local card shop when I was 12 (that was a hard earned $35 ). I'm sure it's still at my mom's house somewhere. 16 years later, I'm looking for my second piece.

Re: tell us about your first ever game used piece

My first game used item was from an ex-girlfriend, who bought me a used Aramis Ramirez Pirates bat from the old Pirates clubhouse store.

The first piece I actually bought? That would be when I won a Terrance Long game worn alternate black and green signed cap, from the A's silent auction during a game.

I remember the rush and thinking how cool it was, especially for the price I paid! I went on to collect some decent game used items back then, many of which I regretted selling (like signed Ray Durham A's and Giants helmets and bats, Marshall Faulk game worn turf shoes that Marshall himself verified for me, and a RARER than RARE Seattle Pilots (worn only one game ever) MLB.com holo photo matched Raul Ibanez batting helmet).

Sadly, my wife and I had just got married and needed to move and pay for our wedding, so everything game worn/used I owned got sold .

It took me another 8 years from then to start collecting game used items again, when in 2010 I stumbled across the Naval Academy's garage sale while living in Annapolis. I bought two game worn football jerseys and two game used helmets, plus a jacket.

Only in the last year have I gotten into a position where I felt confident enough to start up again, and since then have added some nice pieces that I would love to hold onto this time around .

The first game used item I ever purchased was a 1992 John Taylor 49ers away gamer with team letter for 250$, way back in 1994. I eventually sold it (stupidly) and have been looking for it ever since. If anyone out there purchased a John Taylor 92 away gamer (or any other 49ers gamers) from BPH at least 10 years ago please get in touch with me!

                Always buying 49ers gamers!

Paying up to a 500$ finders fee for the right 1994 49ers gamers!!!!!

First piece ever? A 1976 Expos cap of pinch-hit specialist Jose Morales, via our across-the-street neighbor, who was related to Morales.

My first game-used purchase was a 1960 Bob Turley Yankees pinstripe jersey that I bought through the classified ads of Sports Collectors Digest back in 1984. Paid $250 for it and the guy threw in an autographed game-used Dave Winfield cap Yankees cap for $25 to make the whole purchase $275 total. I thought that was a fortune back then. The Winfield cap is long gone, but the Turley pinstripe is one of the very few non-Atlanta Braves game-used items that I still have in my collection.

My first game piece was a Brian Orakpo Jersey from the 2005 Rose Bowl (Texas v Michigan). He didnt play, but he wore it on the sideline. He was a redshirt that year, and eventually turned into a star. This was sold directly by the university. The nameplate was removed, but he was the only 98 on the roster that year. I later got it signed at a Tri-Star show.

Memories......The first game used item I ever had was in the late 80's...what year I dont recall I was under 10 years of age. Anyway, my older sister was "dating" a bat boy of the Cubs. He had a box of bats under his bed, Sandbergs, Dawsons etc. I remember he gave my sister a Dernier to give to me for my birthday. I was the happiest kid around. So happy, I decided to use it during the baseball season, well in one of our last games at Thillens Park (those local chicagoans will know what I am talking about) well anyway picture me at 9 or so years old swinging a proffessional Bobby Dernier bat in litttle league...needless to say my hopes of hitting the scoreboard were wiped away each time I went to the plate and struck out. Sadly enough I left the bat sitting against the fence after the game, and when I returned to take it it was gone. My sister was not so happy with me....though now she laughs as I have Bobbys jersey and 2 of his bats
