1990 Canseco World-Series game-used road jersey with team letter.

I had a question about this jersey that some of the diehard Canseco collectors here may be able to answer. It's a size 50. Did Canseco wear a size 50 in 1990?

The reason I ask is because I have a 1990 Canseco road gamer in my photo library that's a size 48 and a 1991 road gamer that's also a size 48.
As well, here's a 1994 gamer that's a 48:

And a '95 that's a 48:

As well, a few years ago, a 1990 Canseco World Series road gamer was auctioned off (GFC I think). I don't know if it's the same one as is currenty seen on AMI. Here's the one that was sold years ago as well as the two Canseco road gamers I referenced above:

Juan, any idea what size Canseco wore in 1990?

I don't know about the size. I believe its possible he wore a 50 for a time. I looked at the button placement since there are 7 of them and I usually see A's jerseys with 6 for the most part. The putton placement seems to match the two photos on Getty that I found of him wearing the jersey in the series. The patches also appeared to align.

I know that the Canseco 1990 World Series road jersey that we bought from the A's and later sold was a size 50. We also bought and sold a 1987 road size 46, 1989 road size 48, 1989 home size 48. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Kim

Mr. Stigall,
I remember when you were selling those World Series jerseys way back when. The Rickey Henderson was a beauty! Too bad they got swept! It was always a pleasure to purchase from you, especially knowing that your items came right from the A's.

Most of the Canseco's that I have are 48's with the early 80's being 46's....Now, the only post season ones that I have are both size 50's ! I have his playoff BoSox 1995 thats a 50 and his 1990 Home thats a 50. Normally he only wore a t-shirt under his jersey but in the postseason weather he might have worn a thicker shirt. Maybe that might explain the difference.!

Can aynone tell if there are two buttons at the very top in photos (or video) from that World Series?!? The Getty photo is obscured at the top of the jersey but the lower buttons do match up. Anyone have that game on video to confirm?!?

Thanks,
Roger

The two buttons due indeed match up in my opinion from the research I did on getty. It appears to be 100% legit in my opinion.

re: the buttons

i'm not understanding what you guys are talking about. i've got a ton of 1990 A's gamers in my photo library. some have 6 buttons, some have 7. all of the road gamers have 2 buttons above the "Oakland" script. the number of buttons below the "Oakland" script may be dependent on the size of the jersey. eg: a 50 would have 7 buttons whereas a 44 would have 6.

Rudy,

I was just going off the Getty photo and the fact that you can't see the top of the jersey (IE: the two buttons up there).

So consensus sounds like this is a "good" jersey!?! :D

Thanks,
Roger

for whatever it's worth, i know that the A's took their regular season jerseys into the World Series in 1990.

now that both kim stigall and juan iglesias have confirmed that a size 50 is appropriate for a canseco world-series gamer, i have no issues with the size. juan's explanation that jose took a larger size to compensate for wearing thicker undershirts in the colder october road games in cincinnati makes complete sense.

i'm not sure if this is the same shirt that GFC sold years ago. if it's not the same shirt, then i'm not overly fond of the idea that there are 2 1990 world-series road gamers out there. the A's only played in 2 road games in the '90 world series. did canseco really wear 2 different jerseys for those 2 road games? the GFC one was not autographed whereas the AMI jersey is. it could still be the same shirt. perhaps the AMI shirt is the one that kim stigall sold with the A's team letter. either way, i think it's likely a very nice shirt and i wouldn't have a problem bidding on it at this point.
