Just a curious question. What are your top 5 interesting pieces in your collection? Here are mine:

1. Very Rare Reach 3 finger fielder's glove. What makes this one so special is that it has a full web.

2. 1924 Women's Industrial League Baseball trophy. Very neat cup with unique designs at the top. Great history of early women's baseball.

3. Early sporting goods advertising piece. A Peerless Sporting Goods wooden wagon.

4. An early baseball bat signage. Lists the bat prices for the time period.

5. Old Spalding trophy with a pitcher topper. This prize was for the Carter Oil Commercial Champs of 1923 Tulsa.

How about a signed business card from the Phillies team doctor who treated Cal Ripken's broken nose at the 1996 All Star Game in Philadelphia?

Not in any particular order...

1) a construction contact signed by former Phillies Whiz Kid Granny Hamner and his wife to have their home built in Richmond, Va. circa 1957

2) a game used Richmond Braves hat - game used meaning I wore it to about a dozen games when I worked security for them briefly during the 2007 season :)

3) a 1977 LS Tom Underwood game used bat. Used before his mid-season trade to the Cardinals. I've never seen another legit Underwood bat for sale and this one is unique (to me) because I found it in an umbrella stand in an antique store.

4) a Ryan Minor autographed baseball.......who? any guesses as to the significance?

Top 5 unique or 1 of a kind items.

1.) The first Jersey Barry Bonds wore and hit the first official HR at Pac Bell Park 4/11/2000.

2.) Barry Bonds Sam Bat 2001 signed HR #495 (photomatched). Hr 495 was the first of 73 HRS in 2001.

3.) Barry Bonds photomatched rookie glove.

4.) 2001 Road jersey, the only real one ethat ever publicaly changed hands.

5.)1987 Barry Bonds road jersey and pants game used jersey

I have about 50 clippings from newspapers that Dick Stuart kept while he was with the Lincoln Chiefs - they detail his 66 home run year in 1956...he wrote on most of them...he had quite the ego.

I have a 1953 postcard of the Old Course at St. Andrews. On the reverse, the guy wrote about how they had gone to Carnoustie the prior day where he followed Ben Hogan as he was playing in the Open Championship, which he won in his only attempt and his only visit to Scotland.

Not sure what consitutes vintage but two items I have that I really enjoy and consider vintage and rare to the Jets is:

1. A Harry Wismer autographed first edition printing of his book The Public Calls It Sport. The auto is bold and clear and has a long personalization. Wismer was the original owner of the NY Titans (later to be renamed Jets) and instrumental in found the AFL and many of their rules/policies.

2. A 1970 week 11 Weeb Ewbank playbook vs. the Minnesota Vikings (a rare Jets win that season). It has both Jets and Vikings plays, many hand written Ewbank notes, a handwritten injury report, a letter to Ewbank from a local charity, etc... Obtained from the Ewbank estate sale after his passing.

I enjoy reading this vintage section, lots of great stuff. Just wish more members took a peek and posted as well. Happy collecting!

SCOUTING REPORT, PITTSBURGH PIRATES, 1951:"Potentially best prospect. Could go all the way. Aggressive and intelligent. Very well-liked by those who succeed in penetrating the exterior shell. Will run over you if you get in his way."

Thus read the baseball scouting report of a young athlete named Mario Cuomo who at age 19 signed a contract with Branch Rickey for $2,000 to play centerfield in the Pittsburgh Pirate organization right out of high school - shortly after Mickey Mantle had signed with the Yankees for a mere $1100!

Cuomo - Glendie La Duke, as he was then known - was centerfielder for the Brunswick (Georgia) Pirates, a minor league team, when a wild pitch hospitalized him for a month with a severe head injury. Convinced that prospects for a major league career were crushed, he went home to Queens, enrolled at St. John's University, received a scholarship supplemented by playing semi-professional basketball, earned a bachelor's degree with top honors in 1953, and went on to St. John's Law School where he finished at the top of his class in 1956.

Big fan of the vintage stuff..thanks to all who have posted! Tough to narrow it down but here's a list of 5 items I've enjoyed adding to my lifelong collection: 1) 1920s-30s Pie Traynor store model glove in picture box (purchased at estate sale years ago); 2) Traynor's personal 1920s scrapbook w/sev. telegrams (1 from John Tenor, purchased from Christie's years back); 3) 1930s Honus Wagner Co. store model baseball in box (w/graphics, MT condition, purchased at estate sale years ago); 4) Group of personal items from local star Elwood "Woody" English (includes family photos, checks, credit cards, even minor league scrapbook he put together while w/ Toledo in the minors); 5) 1932 Newcomserstown HS Yearbook w/ Woody Hayes as a senior, signed by Hayes (has to be 1 of his earliest signatures).
