    Ball Marks

How do you tell by the ball marks if a right handed or left handed hitter used the bat?

most but not all players bat with the lable up, so if its a left handed hitter the use would be primarly on the bottom of the players name, right hander on top.
Not all guys bat with the lable up, and some guys dont care and bat both ways

Judging from these photos on Getty, Olerud was consistent in the way he held the bat with the label facing him.

I owned two heavily used Oleruds one a 1993 Jays gamer and the other a 1997 Mets gamer and both had tons of ball marks on the right side of the barrel (under the labeling) consistent use for a left handed batter who holds the bat with the label facing him.
