going along with the football theme, anyone have connections with a team that can get me one? i ask one team about getting one and the person directed me to send in a request on official letterhead along with a paper trail longer than the boston marathon.
all i want is a game used football so i can have catch with my son. the teams use plenty during the season and i am sure someone can spare one.

I think he wants a game used one because it's already broken into. does the team name stamped on the football matter to you?

some NFL teams also sell them on their Pro Shop, I think the Eagles do

The difference between a retail football vs an authentic team used football is, on authentic team issued/and or used footballs, the team name is laser-printed onto the panel just under the NFL shield.

Each team will use their own team branded football on offense and only 12 footballs are approved per team per game.

The home team supplies "K" footballs and only 12 of those are approved per game.

With players taking the footballs and team pro shops selling the footballs, there really aren't that many authentic "Duke" footballs around.

aside from the laser engraved team name are there any other differences between retail footballs vs. game footballs?

I spoke to a Wilson employee and he told me that the retail footballs and the footballs sent to the team are exactly the same - except the laser-printing.

They have two from last season on their site for $150 and one from this year for $250

thanks Jim, I always wondered if this is the same for NBA game basketballs vs. the retail ones.

Can't help you out with basketballs because I have zero interest in the NBA.

I don't think the purpose of obtaining a game used piece of equipement is to use it.

If you are just going to toss it around don't buy a game used, just get a retail one. Otherwise, the one member here has a BIN for $175

Could you please explain why you need a GU ball to "toss around" when retails cost jack and are IDENTICAL except for an imprinted label or two?

You may have heard or been told that these are the same as the store model and I'm sure the look and materials are the same. But the feel and the grip of these balls CANNOT be found with a store model ball. Gamers have a hard to explain slick feel. But at the same time have a tacky feeling. These feel like you can throw them a mile but if someone tosses one to you it could slip right thru your hands. I love the feel of them and when they get autographed the silver sharpie looks awesome. Store models almost have a powdery feel and look and aren't as nice to get autographed. I have several of each way.

I am on the sidelines every home game with the balls as they go in and come off the field. I have often wanted to go outside with these gamers and throw them around wearing receivers gloves. But, being a collector, I can't bring myself to ruining a perfectly good GU item. So I just throw them around the Dome. Same feeling without the grass stains.

nice way to describe the feel of the actual game footballs kj33706. do you know why they have the different consistency from the retail game footballs? do teams add something onto the leather that give it that slick and tacky feel? thanks

No, it's not like MLB where they rub the baseballs in mud to knock off the sheen. They are fresh from the box when they are put into the bag to go to the field. All I know is that I have several store models that I purchased directly from Sports Authority and I have several game used balls and there is something very different about the color and feel. When you handle a fresh game ball, your fingers will turn a redish brown. I am staring a 16 autographed footballs and I can tell which ones are gamers and which ones are store models by the coloring.
