With my birthday in an hour, I thought I would be "that guy" that starts the monthly pick up page a few days early!

Picked up a few items, Bronson Arroyo pounded bat, Brandon Larson SAM bat, Sean Casey bat, Scott Sullivan batting practice jersey and a childhood favorite from the minor leagues Deivi Cruz bat.

I brought it from a costume company in Beijing China. Sent them a photo of Mr. Met and this was their attempt to duplicate it. Not exactly the same but close enough. They may not have made it exactly the same so they wont get sued.

Anyway I 'm sure they can do the Reds Mascot as he's also a baseball head !

yeah either an '89 or a '90. i'm leaning towards it being an '89 because i think they may have used rawlings for their BP shirts in 1990. maybe not exclusively. i'm not sure. also, in 1990, i believe they had the desert storm US flag on their BP shirts. so probably an '89. as you know, '89 was abbott's rookie year. cool stuff.

i liked abbott. i could watch his windup a hundred times and still never understand how he flipped his glove, mid-delivery, from one arm to the other. crazy thing to watch.

Thanks Rudy. I figured 1989 also, but they must have used both Rawlings and Majestic because the photo-style match I have is with the Rawlings jersey which had the halo truncate a portion of the open triangle in the A while the Majestics don't appear too.

I'm with you as far as watching him. He was a great fielder too. To see him field a grounder up the middle was nothing short of a miracle. Classy guy too.

Just picked up this J.J. Arrington 2004 Cal Golden Bears road jersey on eBay tonight. Shows nice game wear from the photo. Can't wait to get it to try and figure out what team he might have worn it against. Not many pictures I could find of the back of his jersey so photomatching it might not be possible.

Just picked up a Tom Randall Cowboys helmet. This helmet is hammered. It looks like it was used all season and I don't think it was ever re-conditioned.

Tom Randall only played 1-year (1978) with the Cowboys. He was an offensive guard and he appeared in 11 games that season. He also appeared in Super Bowl XIII. Could he have worn this helmet during the Super Bowl? Hummmmm....

This is not a pickup, but i did find these. I have talked about the Larry Berra bat that i had and then sold to Taube years ago which i still wish i never did. Well the other day i found out you can view all the emails you have sent in the past. So one from 2005 had the photos of the bat that i sent to John, so now im able to still see the bat. Sorry these photos suck.

Jose Reyes game worn 2007 Road jersey. Jersey comes with a steiner letter and mlb hologram. Jersey shows great use, looks like it has been washed alot, lots of dirt on the front. According to the mlb hologram this jersey was used during Tom Glavines 300th win game on 8/5/2007. Reyes was 3-6, he had a triple and stole third that game. I just picked these two items up this week. The first one is a cracked Cecil Cooper Worth bat from the mid 1980's he signed it in blue on the barrel. The second is a game used minnor league jersey of Angel Salome form the 2008 season when he was playing for the Huntsville Stars, he signed it on back in black marker. Angel is one of the Brewers top prospects in the minnor league system.

Thanks. I paid per item and was happy with the signing as Emil and Ryan were great to work with. I brought all the game used balls and lineup cards and 5 of my own bats. Ryan supplied all the cleats, batting gloves, caps, and 2008 bats.

We laughed a lot especially when it came to what color pen to use on some of the items.

My personal collection grew tremendously this week. I am trying to add historically significant Nats items so if anyone has some or want to trade, let me know.

I am now on the prowl of some more Throwbacks and Last Game at RFK jerseys.

Thanks for asking! The museum sports exhibit will not open until July 2009 so there is still some time for me and my co-planner to acquire photos, etc. for it. The plan is going OK so far. I just wish the players (current & former) I have written to about the exhibit took a little more interest in it. Oh well, that was to be expected I guess.

I'm excited because I just picked up an auto'd Royals Joe Nelson jersey from the team and I have been looking for one of those for awhile now. Not sure if it's game used or game issued but I will post pics when I get it next week. Now all I need is a Jimmy Rollins gamer and I'll be a happy man!

I haven't tried sending them any photos of the museum or any items I have for display but that's a thought. I have been pretty thorough in my letters about the exhibit, what's it's about, who's hosting it, etc. I am planning on making some flyers in the near future and will send them one of those too.

I have heard back from one current player and have gotten some items on loan from two former players that I know personally but that's it so far. One former football player's widow is going to loan some stuff of his too so that's nice. You know I have tried contacting Willis and Rollins agents but not even a courtesy reply from them so I'm not holding my breath. I'll keep plugging away with my letter writing and hope it works out.

I just acquired what I believe is a 1965-69 Joe Morgan game used bat. It's an S44 model with a light flame finish and wide grain; 34.5", 32 oz. Joe's old #18 is visible, though faded, on the knob above the S44 stamp. Shows good use with a minor handle crack. The original owner says he received it from Joe at Busch Stadium when he was a kid. The handle was taped at one time but has since been removed.

I picked up what I believe is a St Patty's Twins spring training jersey worn by Tim Drummond in 1989 or 1990. I have sent Steichens an email hoping for a little more info. This one has two neck tags and the Steichens logo on one sleeve and "Athletic Sewing" on the other. The sleeve logos and the two tags leads me to believe this one is older than my other St Patty's Day jersey as it doesn't have the sleeve logos and has only one neck tag. Otherwise everything else is identical.

These St Patty's Day jerseys are impossible to find. In the last five years or so only four have shown up for sale. Two of which I have purchased. This one was listed in the wrong ebay category and had no mention of being game used in the description so I got it at a great price. Hoping Steichens comes back with some good news.

I stopped by Safeco today and ended up buying a complete uniform (jersey/cap/pants) from the 1989 TBTC game last year of Riggleman. Only $180 bucks with the 40% discount they are runnng on all game used items. They had 1978 TBTC unifroms from Green and Dickey, a handful of Marineros jersey as well as the assortment of left overs from 2006 and 2007. Craig said they will be bringing out some 2008 stuff right after the 1st of the year. He is going to give me a call and would be happy to update anyone if they want just shoot me a email.

I doubt it, it was made by AIS and is a size 48. Interestingly enough, the leters "CH" are written in Sharpie on the tag (which is sewn inside the jersey. I'll have to watch the movie again and do some more "investigative" work on that one.

Based on the center labeling and model number without lot or year code this Flynn is from mid-1979. Starting in the middle of 1979 Adirondack changed the center labeling to the one on your Flynn (a departure from the 71-79 labeling). They didn't start putting lot and year codes into the knobs until 1980. Though in rare cases there are 79 bats with a lot and year code (123 9) that do exist.

The Johnson bat doesn't have a lot of use, but the Webb bat really does. In fact, I've gotten ahold of three Webb bats over the years, and they all had pretty good use on them. Webby works at it.

I also bought myself another '07 Luis Gonzalez gamer, which I originally wasn't going to do. I already had one of Gonzo's L.A. bats, and that was going to be it. (Just like I was only going to buy one of his Cubs bats, and now I mysteriously have three.)

Then I got to looking at this bat, saw where the bidding was, and had to have it.

As you can see, it's got one of Gonzo's astericks on the knob (denoting one of his favorite gamers), a ton of pine tar, lots of ball marks, and it's uncracked. The bidding was hovering right around a hundred bucks near the end, and I picked it up for less than 120. A classic Gonzo bat and a thing of beauty.

I was fortunate enough to pick up a dozen game used Buffalo Bisons jerseys used in all of 2007 and 2008. For years the Bisons have been the Indians AAA affilate but for 2009 they are changing to the Mets as the Indians have switched to the Columbus Clippers (for geographic reasons, I assume). Anyway, I was able to pick up twelve of the jerseys, each comes with a letter from the Bisons GM.

It is the first unwashed game used jersey that I have purchased and it was better then advertised in my opinion. The jersey has dirt and grass stains and has a huge sweat stain on the front that still has Carter's funk coming off of it even after 2 years. Although I'm still not sure if that is good or bad :confused:

Dcgreg25 I'm super jealous of that pull. I had planned on buying a few of those from scott, i was just trying to get the money together, I really wanted the laffey, sowers, fransico, crowe, and martinez. I have the red alternate Hafner, and the road gray Andy Gonzalez. If you are ever interseted in getting rid of those throw me an e-mail. I will be meeting Francisco and Laffey in January at the indians caravan in Erie, I would love to have those by then, but if you plan on keeping them, if you are intersted in getting them signed I could do that for you too, maybe in exchange for a descent price on one of the others. Anyway let me know and congratulations on those sweet pulls.

Brian was an excellent pitcher with the M’s in the early 90’s, in 1991 he led the team in ERA and wins. He was acquired with Randy Johnson from the Expos in a big trade. Unfortunately he had his career cut short in 1992 by an arm injury. Today he supports a lot of charitable causes with a focus on the Leukemia foundation and other organizations that focus on the children.
The package he sent me is awesome and will be one of the center pieces of my collection…landed on my porch on 12/26 J

Thanks for the compliment! But the real credit goes to the players that provide the support and we need to encourage more of it and recognize it when they provide it. I have been lucky in regards to seeing such great players as Jay, Edgar, Junior, Randy Johnson, Jeff Nelson, Brian Holman, Matt Young, and Scott Bradley. The list goes on and they have not focused on one charity but several, even when times are tough I have seen plenty of these guys come forward to help.

My guess is that the various companies made the different styles of repro jerseys that the players wore during the playing time. Just like the Yankees wore during the last game...

No idea I would have thought Mitchell and Ness would have done them since Majestic never released this style and Mitchell and Ness did.The way I see it Mitchell and ness did early 60's to early 70's and Majestic did early 80's to current.I love this style it's my favorite and have been in search for a Flynn gamer for a few years with no luck.So this was cool he wore it during the ceremony..Here is the Mitchell and Ness authentic was a Bobby V I striped it making it into a 78 Youngblood...

Knit v Flannel and different eras are both correct answers. Mitchell & Ness reproduced the Joe Torre era two button pullover unis.

A different manufacturer reproduced a flannel version of the '60s Mets home unis with a uni number on the front and back. This was the only flannel version worn during those ceremonies. Thus, Frank Thomas appeared in a historically inacurrate uni. Frank's uni had a number on the front of his jersey, even though his Met stint ended in 1964, before the Mets began to wear uni numbers on the front of their jerseys.

George Theodore, Felix Millan and Willie Mays also appeared in this flannel uni even though their Met stints were exclusively in the doubleknit era. A doubleknit version of the Mets 72-77 uni was not made for Shea's closing festivities.
