    Coach's Bats: Sisler, Reese

Hello, I have two coach's bats, and I was wondering if you guys could tell me if they were ordered by the player or not.

The first is a George Sisler, 50's, HB S91, 36"

The second, Pee Wee Reese, HB early 70's, S100, 34.5"

    Thanks, Ken

Hi Ken - for some reason I don't have Sisler orders in the 50's and Reese orders in the early 70's - Mike's records may be more complete than mine. I am sure he will be checking this post - sorry - Jim

      Hi Ken --

The George Sisler records available cover the period from April, 1930 through July, 1942. There is a notation, however, regarding sending a George Sisler autographed Model S91 bat 36" / 42 oz to a person in Oakland in May, 1969. There is no info about Sisler's orders during his post-career coaching days in those records, unfortunately.

The available Pee Wee Reese records cover the period from 4/15/38 through 7/23/58. During that period there were no documented orders of Model S100 bats for Reese. I am, however, personally familiar with the Model S100 Reese bats used by him as a hitting instructor with the Dodgers during Spring Training. I obtained one directly from a Dodger bat boy in the mid-1970s (who relayed the above info) , and have seen two others. Unfortunately I do not have notes regarding the length or weight of those bats.

      Good Luck in future collecting.

      Mike
