Is Lowe next?
A salary cap in MLB should be implemented..Following Game Used/Worn auctions and team sales: www.twitter.com/gameused -
Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
Best rotation in the american league if they stay healthy.
Also their should not be a salary cap, and if they do their has to be a base salary cap like $60 million so teams like the pirates and marlins have to move on. It's not are fault their owners dont care about their team. They use the money from the yankees to buy new homes and not add another player or two.Comment

Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
Sorry to see him leave my Jays... (just as he gets healthy) but other than coming on strong in the second half of a "long-shot-at-best" playoff run last season, he was injured alot and didn't really didn't impress for sustained stretches on the mound.
I never wish harm or bad luck on anyone, but since he stayed in the AL East and with the dreaded Yanks, no less....I will change my approach some, anday that I hope he reverts to his 2006 form.Comment

Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
I'm glad to see the Yankees get the pitching they need so bad. Next year will be exciting. I do wish that they could have won the world series in the final season of Yankee stadium.
However, I'm excited for next year. Hold on...Manny Ramirez in on the other line. He said he's signing with the Yankees!!!!Regards, Tony

Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
Great move by the Yankees picking up Burnett. Banking on him to contribute in their rotation for the next 5 years will prove nothing but trouble. Lets go over the numbers:
On the DL 10 times in his career
over 200 innings 3 times(2 of the times were "contract years")
more than 12 wins once(last year "contract year")
Turning 32 in January
This guy is a dog and now that he got his last big contract he's going to sit back and collect his fat cash. I predict DL trip #11 happens before Aug of this year and he'll be in no rush to come back. Enjoy!

Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
No, I was concerned with their supposed interest in him and the local media was killing the Sox for even the chance that they may sign him. I don't see them going after a big dollar pitcher. For the record- I think an AL team signing Lowe is a mistakeComment

Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
Isn't this kind of funny how this works? It sounds like (rumors and speculation) interest in Manny Ramirez is shrinking and two possible teams to step up could be either the Yanks or the Nationals. There has been a tremendous amount of disdain towards Manny on this forum, a lot by Yankee fans. Based on his behavior, probably not totally unfounded. But, it will be very interesting to read what is written if he ends up in pinstripes.Comment

Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
Here's an idea (for the anti-socialists in the group): let's just fold every other team in MLB, save the Yankee$ and the Red $ox. They're the only teams that matter, right? Why waste time on poseurs like the Orioles, Blue Jays, Royals, Pirates, et al, when the sport can be boiled to its essence and made much more entertaining?
After all, the fact that you just happened to be located in the most populous city in the country (or in a region rabid for baseball with no other teams nearby) should allow you to financially dominate the sport, right?
Screw fair competition, let's just buy championships...
The solution to this problem is NFL-style revenue sharing...and two more teams in NY. I doubt I'll live to see the day when MLB becomes 30 oarsmen in one boat, rather than this 30-boats, every-man-for-himself free for all we have now...but a boy can dream, can't he.
Hamfisted Hank said he'd buy up every top FA pitcher on the market. I wonder how those pitchers are going to feel when they stop counting their money and find they're pitching in front of the worst defense in the league?Mark

i guess my point was that their is the luxury tax and revenue sharing in baseball. if the teams that get this money do not reinvest the money back into their team and instead, as a member suggested, uses the money they receives from the larger market for their own personal expenses, who is to blame?
not all large markets have a propensity to spend money. the only reason manny played in los angeles was because the red sox was paying his salary.
then again. there are the small market teams that have the savy to pay long term contracts to really good young players like tampa.Regards,

Re: A.J. Burnett to NYY
According to Cbssportsline, The top 3 MLB team payrolls for 2008 were the Yankees, Tigers, and Mets- none made the playoffs. The Phillies and Rays- the 2 teams in the World Series were 13th and 29th in team payrolls. Its not so much how much you spend, its who you spend it on and how you spend it(player development and draft).
