2006 Mlb Sleeve Patches

I'm not sure if everyone has seen a few of the sleeve patches being worn this season:

BLUE JAYS: TC with a microphone in memory of their broadcaster, Tom Cheek

ORIOLES: 44 in memory of long time player/coach Ellie Hendricks

RED SOX: World Champs

I have a question about the nature of the Red Sox patch. A few years ago, I was told that MLB required a request at least two years in advance for a team to wear a special sleeve patch (i.e., anniversary of the franchise, etc.). In this case, the Red Sox would not be allowed to wear this current patch. Memorial patches would not fall under these guidelines.

I have never been able to confirm this, however, have heard this "MLB rule" quite a few times from collectors and those associated in the hobby.

Does anyone know what the MLB rule is on this subject of "non-memorial" patches?:confused:

Just to add to it the Athletics have there normal patch of the elephant on a ball on the left sleeve above the Majestic logo and they have another patch on there right sleeve, i couldnt quite make out what it is though on the right sleeve.

It's a 45th Anniversary patch.

In the case of this year's A's patch,it's not a 45th anniversary patch (I think that's the Astros).The A's patch says "Holy Toledo" the catchphrase of their announcer,Bill King,who passed away this past October.They even renamed their broadcast booth after him,much as the Phillies did when Rich Ashburn died.

And Minnesota is sporting a 34 for Kirby Puckett on the right sleeve.

-Cardinals-New Busch Stadium Inaugural patch on right sleeve.

The Astros are wearing the "45th Anniversary of Houston Baseball, 1962-2006."

Do you guys remember a few years ago when the Rockies wore their 10th Anniversary patch in 2002 and the Marlins in 2003. Someone messed up at the Marlins! Slight miscount!

Similar situation with the two 1977 AL expansion teams. Toronto wore their 20th Anniversary patch in 1996, Seattle in 1997.

With all the special events this season that the Mets are having to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 86 Mets it's surprising that they didn't do a patch. They did a 25th anniversary team patch on their 86 jerseys, 25th anniversary of the 69 miracle mets in 1992, 40th Anniversary of the team on the 2002 jerseys, 40th Anniversary of Shea patch on the 2004 jerseys.

San francisco giants have a patch also on there arm.

the cardinals are supposed to wear the inaugural stadium patch, but right now their away jerseys dont have it. Also it looks to me like they also no longer have a nameplate on the back of their jerseys.

may be waiting to introduce the new patch Monday at the home opener.

The MLB Style Guide shows the Cardinals only wearing the patch on home jerseys.

This is common when teams wear a stadium related patch.
