View Full Version : Jordan Olympic Jersey-insight?

I've been asked by one of my associates about the following "game issued Jordan jersey" currently on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220337855891&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR4 0%26_trksid%3Dm38.l1313%26_nkw%3D220337855891%2B%2 6_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1

$10,000 for an unused, never worn jersey? Is this the EXACT same jersey as Jordan wore?

Also, I'm not familiar with the seller.

Any insight is appreciated.

hey howard! i'm no expert, but the "jordan" on the rear of the jersey doesn't look arched enough or the right size font.

hiya howard!

re: the shirt
the NOB is incorrect. wrong arch and the "J" is way off.

what's interesting to me is that it appears to have the exact same incorrect nob as another one of the sdb23's jordan "game issues" previously discussed here: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=19928

isn't it crazy that a 1991 "game issue" has the exact same incorrect nob as a 1992 olympic "game issue"? i mean, those are two completely different shirts that ought to have 2 different nobs. not only do they both have incorrect nobs, but they're incorrect in exactly the same way. offered by the same seller no less. it's almost like the same person lettered them both. would champion have really screwed up 2 "game issued" shirts from different years like this?

here's a look at sdb23's two jordan "game issued" shirts as well as the nob should look on a legit 1992 jordan olympic shirt:

http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/9312/sillydt5.jpg

some more reading about '92 jordan olympic shirts:

http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=8348

http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=11610

it's certainly an odd scenario when a seller, who recently had boatloads of 89/90 jordan "game issued" shirts, shorts, warmups, has 2 different shirts both screwed up in the exact same way. you asked about the seller, sdb23. i've been told that sdb23 is steve berg. some may remember steve from operation foul ball in 1996. an excerpt from an old beckett article:

"Berg, who formerly operated SDB Enterprises from his home in Chicago, pled guilty to selling forged memorabilia in April of this year. His sentencing is scheduled for next week."

while googling his name, i also found this:

"The Upper Deck Company has filed civil lawsuits against a pair of convicted forgers, Robert Austin and Steve Berg. The pair had been busted in 1996 as part of the FBI's Operation Foul Ball investigation. They are now facing criminal and civil penalties as a result of their activities."

Howard,

I used to have the GI 92 Olympic Jordan jersey just what sdb23 had but I was fortunate to have it traded for the Game Worn 92 Olympic Jordan uniforms (BLUE and WHITE) + CASH consideration. (pics attached)

I was hesitant at first to trade my GI but when I saw all the exemplars just like the one sold by REA Auctions, I was glad that I did.

I have not seen a complete BLUE uniform besides the one that MJAuthentic.com sold and the WHITE 92 Olympic Jordan jersey that REA Auctions sold in the past.

The blue and white uniforms pictured here are worn by MJ...wow! What type of provenance came with them when you traded for them? Also, do you know how many sets MJ wore during the Olympics?

Jordan23collectibles.....I thought I recognized that username...I saw your MJ collection on the Vintage Authentics collectors website...wow!

That has to be the most impressive MJ collection I have seen...are all the items game used? Congratulations on a great collection...

I apologize if I worded it game worn by Jordan in an Olympic game, I took the word of a fellow collector.
I should have worded it "presumably worn".
With regards to provenance, I do not have any but the jersey and shorts can be photomatched and I have the USA Basketball Dream Team Yearbook to verify the exemplars such as NOB, dual tagging, inside taggings etc.
As to your question of how many sets did MJ wore, maybe USA basketball can answer that question.

I also saw on 23raisons website a procut 92 Jordan Olympic Jersey.

http://23raisons.free.fr/jersey.html

This exhibits the same exemplars as the GI that I had once before.

His comments on the jersey is as follows:

1992 Procut USA Dream Team Home - Champion 46 +3 extra length

This procut is not exactly like the Game Issued from the Olympics Summer Games. This jersey is a limited edition produced by Champion before the Preliminary Games for promotion ( for exemple, the photos below for the Jersey's presentation). On the game issued, the USA printed on front is smaller and the font of the name is different. But this procut is too a very rare stuff... ("extra 3" length" wash tag on the inside tail of the jersey) a "must have" in my collection...

Looking at the Olympic jersey offered by Vintage Authentics, it appears to be the same as the jersey I have in my collection and looks authentic to me. Hope that helps..

Hi,

The jersey that I used to own is now at the GFC Summer 2009 auction, - Lot # 94 - 1992 Michael Jordan USA Dream Team Pro-Cut Autographed Home Jersey (UDA) (JSA) - link below

http://greyflannelauctions.com/LotDetail3.aspx?lotid=20510

Nice procut or game issued with a nice signature and UDA certification...

Olympic jerseys-I stay away from them. Unless it comes right from the player I would just not mess with it. First, there are too many of them out there. Second, why would a player give up his gold medal olympic jersey? I'm just real leary of any and all Bird and MJ Olympic jerseys. My 2 cents.

Greg, I think it is safe to say that there was more than one jersey worn throughout the 92 Olympics, Tournament of Americas, etc.

I assume that each player would keep 1-2 of each home and road. I would estimate there are an additional 4-6 game used for each player floating around plus multiple game issued that were never worn.

I actually think that the procut (incorrect NOB) is rarer than the game issued. However, no one wants the procut as they want their jersey to be game specs - myself included.

If after a game used DT jersey, compare game pic and make sure the following match:
1. placement of the champion logo
2. usa basketball font

can anyone else chime in? i've driven myself crazy looking at these the last few days, as I have been offered 4 complete MJ uniforms between two different people.

Agreed, but who knows for sure? Maybe somebody does on GUU, BUT, still too many out there. A personal friend of mine has two Birds from the Olympics and he said he got one of them from Bird's brother. He sent me pictures of it and nothing matched up good. They show up everywhere. I don't know. I just stay away when there's an over abundance of certain jerseys and no good-or legit-paper work or something to go with it.

The Dream Team uniforms posted here by jordan23collectibles are fake. He attempted to sells these to me for $8k each several years ago. I found out these are counterfeits and were originally sold for $400-800 each and called him out on it - even sent him the detailed evidence. He refused to respond. The 96 Jordan All Star Jersey was also counterfeited. I am seeing these pop up on ebay right and left and can't but help feel badly for the buyers.

I just want to set the record straight and avoid the mudslinging due to a deal that did not go through with Mark (mmonte4). You can talk all you want with regards to saying that my collection is purely fake and you have all the right to say whatever you want. But please have a look at the facts before making a judgement call if an item is a FAKE. I have been a collector for many years now and I enjoy the relationship with other members in this forum but I did dare not bash a fellow member because of a deal that did not go through. I gained a lot of knowledge from the good people on this forum and I based my judgements on Getty Images, programs and rely a lot on forum members and my own instinct when I try to buy my jerseys to complete my collection.

For the same jerseys that you are criticizing, there were 2 of the same jerseys recently sold on Ebay by a fellow member (trsent) Joel and they exhibit the same exemplars as my jerseys.

Collecting is a passion that we all enjoy and I hope that you will rest your case in criticizing but give positive but not attacking remarks to a fellow member in this forum.

At one point in time you posted a similar thread stating that you got a jersey that was tackle twill and thought it was the real thing but nobody criticized you for making such comments on a thread you started.

Yes, the two sold on ebay are the same FAKES that you own Theo. I believe they advertised theirs are "pro cut" (also signed), and started their auctions with a low opening bid which is fine I guess. On the other hand, you advertised your jerseys as GAME WORN and attempted to swindle me out of $16k. Not only this, but you then attempted to sell me a FAKE 96 All Star jersey that originated from the same source. I presented you detailed evidence describing exactly why yours were fake and you simply refused to communicate afterwards (your jerseys were REJECTED by Hunt Auctions prior to offering them to me, correct?). In fact, you continued to post your great "game worn" collection for all to see. I'm not so sure you deserve the positive accolades you're seeking.
