Nice Stash Of Game Used On AMERICAN MEMORABILIA

    Hello Everyone,

I'm a long time reader, and just recently signed up. Minus the riff-raff between some of the members here, I enjoy keeping up to date on Game-Used discussions via this site. Thanks for all of the education and knowledge in your respective fields.

Now, on to the discussion. American Memorabilia just opened their most recent auction, and it is LOADED with football game-used items. The Walter Payton, HOLY GRAIL of all game used, jersey has got to be the best. Any guesses on the final price? Lots of old, vintage game-worn stuff. Check it out, and tell us what you think.

    "Tell us what you think?????"

Triplexxx, this sure sounds like a promo...Do you work for AMI

Loaded with awesome items?....without looking back through past auctions to verify every item, AMi has auctioned most of these before...very little new material

In fact, I saw a few of the top 5 at their booth at the National 6 months ago, which leads me to believe that they own these items

Compared to their previous "superbowl" auction, I think the quality of the auction has gone right down the tank....probably a direct result of their payment and customer service history

And the Emmitt Smith?....I will revive a thread later with photo's from the Eagle game

Why would you ever have Stan inscribe that on the front of the shirt? I just don't get it. Raifie

Does anyone see a problem with the 1980's Kareem Laker jersey (Lot 25). It's a given that it has to be a Tiernan and the placement of the label is correct. Can't read it, however. The lettering looks good. I'm sure Lou thinks its perfect, but, I'd like another opinion from someone who actually knows something about game used basketball jerseys

Just an off the wall thought...has anyone ever considered that these items are being placed in there just to get attention? Meaning that while they may be listed in the auction, the invisible reserve is set so high that they really are not ever going to be sold.

There is alot of hype involved in these auctions. From getting people to look at other things when they hear that there is an awesome Payton jersey up there, to people thinking that $10,000 for a Jim McMahon looks like a good deal if they see that Payton jersey going for $80,000. We've all been to that minor league team auction where after seeing what the 1st five nobody jerseys are sold for, we start to think that $500 for a single A non-prospect may not be that bad of a deal.

                    No, I'm s
elf-employed here. No affiliation with AMI. I was not aware that any of the items were re-listed. I've only seen 3-4 auctions on there and they were the most recent ones. Remember, I am a ROOKIE. However, relisted or not, they sure have some nice stuff.

There's another response in here that questions the reserve prices on some of those items. I would hope that the reserves are not set so high that they will never sell, or if they do they will go for some God-awful amount. I also hope they are a legit company, and would never put items on there to help them gain exposure.

Either way, I will keep my eyes open on a few of those items.

Re: Nice Stash Of Game Used On AMERICAN MEMORABILIA

i love what they did with the "kirk gibson" helmet. helmet was made in 1990. in '90, #23 was worn by dan petry. in '91, #23 was worn by mark leiter. in '92, #23 was worn by mark leiter. gibson took the number in 1993.

while i absolutely agree that helmets are often used beyond their year of manufacture, i'm curious what evidence AMI has to extend the use of this helmet to 1993 specifically and thus link it to gibson. that is, why is this simply not a mark leiter helmet? did they just keep going until they hit the most lucrative player?

could be the most expensive mark leiter (or dan petry) helmet ever sold.

                      rudy.

                        kingjammy24,
Why dont you look up and see what side they batted from. Both Mark Leiter and Dan Petry batted right handed, while Kirk batted left handed. Now i dont know if the helmet is real but i would say their is a better chance that Gibson wore it then Dan or Mark.

Comes with a coa from the Peyback Foundation, which, from what i've learned, is of good order...

Why would you have him sign it period?

I understand having some game used pieces signed....I own some myself. There is a common sense factor though. I would never ruin a vintage one of a kind jersey like that with ink. Get a photo of Musial holding the jersey and have him sign the photo or something.....geesh.
