as far as i know, boston used the huge numbers on their helmets. i looked at boggs pics from 82-92 and all the helmets have the huge numbers. not to mention the mlb logo came out in the mid to late 90's.
anyone feel free to correct that and chime in.

the mlb logo was first displayed in 1992. i don't think the logo was adopted by each and every single team in '92 (the A's didn't seem to be on board in '92) but it seems to have been adopted by most teams that year. the red sox wore the mlb logo in '92 and didn't use the large numbers that they had in the past. anyway, here are a few pics from the '92 season. the pics can easily be dated via the russell logo and/or the JRY patch. 1992 was the first year that russell supplied the sox and by 1993, boggs was long gone and had joined the yankees. the photos seem to show the red sox wearing numbers on the bill of the helmet as well as on the back.

the helmet dates to pre 90, as evidenced by the embossed ABC on back and the old style pie date wheel.
did he use it from 89-92, 4 seasons? the padding looks way to good for that many seasons worth of use.
