    Jackie Robinson #42

This may be a dumb question, but fot the lingest time I was under the impression that Jackie Robinson's #42 was retired for ALL teams and no one could use it. But, I was just watching the MLB Network and I saw that Mariano Rivera uses it. I also want to say Dave Henderson did, but I'm not sure. Any insight would be great. thanks, Ricardo

Mariano Rivera is number 42 and has been for his entire career. Apparently he was grandfathered by the league-wide retirement of the number, which happened in honor of Jackie Robinson after Rivera became a Yankee.

When they retired the number in 1997, anyone who had been wearing the number prior to that was allowed to continue wearing it. Rivera is the only one left.

Ok, got it, so no one new can start wearing it. Thanks for the specific information, Ricardo
